To be fair, there aren't the only ones who have tampered with the ball. Wasn't Du Plessis charged for ball tampering not long ago and Atherton got caught doing it as well.

Take the 'leadership group' of Smith, Warner, Lyon, Starc & Hazlewood out the team, plus Bancroft, and there's a big hole to fill. Leave one or more and you've got premeditating cheats representing Australia.

Tricky.

Strange that in a game where one side admits to cheating that they umpires don’t have to power to stop the test and award it to the opposition. Guess it’s all about money and crowd revenues etc

If it had made a significant difference then I imagine they might've called it off for an investigation, but from what I could see it didn't make a huge amount of difference. Today SA's batsmen were flapping at the ball again, just like always. I would guess that because the umpires appeared to step in and investigate almost immediately the impact of any cheating was considered minimal/zero so carry on.

If a couple of wickets had fallen or the ball could be seen to behave oddly and then the umpires were told to have a word, maybe we'd see a different situation.

I'm actually a bit emotional about this. Genuinely welling up a little bit. Just a feeling of pure unadulterated joy - couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.

I think this might have tickled my schadenfreude bone more than the prospect of West Ham getting relegated.

Only a one game ban!. As usual the Australian Cricket Board whitewashes the events almost like nothing ever happened.
I still remember the Greg Chappell/Trevor Chappell underarm bowling debacle.

Can't watch that, it pisses me off so much. I was only 5 when it happened, but ever since the first time I saw it on some Christmas TV sport montage program when I was about eleven or twelve and my old man explained it to me, I was livid then and even thinking about it pisses me off a bit.

I think that's the ICC ban not Cricket Australia? Expect them to be much harsher.

Warner on ball tampering

Warner made the comments after now-South African captain Faf du Plessis was charged with ball-tampering during a tour of Australia in 2016.

"I won't comment on the way [South Africa] have been behaving but I just know from an Australian cricket perspective: we hold our heads high and I'll be very disappointed if one of our teammates illegally change the condition of the ball" Warner said at a press conference in 2016.

"The rules are in place for a reason, if you're not gonna use them, then why bother having them?"

This is a great example of why Warner is such a world class mingestrangler

Odd moment there: Terrible delivery from Astle; terrible shot from Bairstow, and a terrible catch attempt in the field by Boult. Unusual to see that trifecta in a single play.
