That is an annoyingly good start by Australia and hugely worrying for England. A few wickets would change the outlook but there’s not even been half a chance in that session. Does not bode well.

I got scolded yesterday for being angry with Stokes for giving away his wicket when I thought we weren’t close to enough runs due to the nature of the pitch and the time left in the game…🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless we get some quick wickets soon, this is looking rather ominous. Smith and Labuschagne will be desperate to get out there.

On and off rain from here until tmrw afternoon might be better for the English. I was starting to think we might actually have a chance but with intermittent rain stops, it will make it harder to bat

Today had too much of an end of term feel to it. The rain has come at a good time for the team to hopefully refocus on what is important right now.

Broady retiring caught me off guard! I was unable to watch the last 2 hours of play on Saturday and I was keeping up with Cricbuzz (which is a handy app for tracking cricket scores). Saw the close of play score and then around 15 mins later saw Broady's announcement. I was shocked as he's looked one of the best bowlers in either side on really flat wickets. He's one of those bowlers who's improved throughout his career.

However I absolutely get it. I'm sure in his mind he was thinking "if not now, when?". He lives for Ashes cricket and the next tour is in 2 years when he'll be 39, whereas the chances of him playing in the next Ashes in England are obviously non-existent.

Watching him coming out to bat, with Jimmy on his birthday, was a moment and a half. I teared up, I must admit. I also realised I've taken Broady and Anderson for granted all these years, especially Broad. There is a void now in the attack that will be really hard to fill given the injuries the other bowlers regularly encounter.

Robinson, Woody, Archer & Woakes of late have all had their issues.

As to the Test itself, I think the rain helped England yesterday. I think they needed a day off to rest post-lunch. I also think the Broad stuff took centre stage and they almost expected to roll out the Aussies. Wasn't impressed with the bowling. Having said that the Aussie openers played well and positively and showed they're not ready to just give Broad his send off.

The mental reset overnight will help the English bowlers I think and help set up a big final day.

TMS - I mean... it's not like he's died, maybe they haven't seen the film or know who these people are? :D

You’re going to have to fill in the gaps in my knowledge tbh…

The original image is from the end of the last Fast & Furious film that was made just after Paul Walker died. They CGId him in for the last scene with Vin Diesel, where they drive along for a bit then one goes left, other goes right - was like a big metaphor for him passing away. It's a touching scene if you care about the F&F series, or Paul Walker I guess
