Happy 1st of August people

Lets save the doom and gloom for Friday if nothing has happened but right now its a new week and who knows

No idea why I am so positive as I am still half asleep here

But something good HAS to happen this week!

I've remained relatively calm this transfer window, but I really do think this is an important week for us and our success/failures in the transfer market could shape our season.

I agree. If we don't get in anyone this week it could have a knock on affect for the rest of the season. We have needed a signing to give the whole club a lift since the who Modric saga. If we don't sign anyone this week then it is likely that we'll start against Everton without any new signings and at the moment it all seems gloomy.

the journalist fairly putting his reputation online with todays insistance Lass Diarra is done. So regardless of sales we'll see Diarra at WHL this season? Hope so. Villa might be best chance we have of mini clear out with Sunderland & fulham shopping elsewhere. I'm hoping the journo is spot on. At this point Diarra Huntelaar and Farfan for £60m would be greatl accepted by me. Tho Llorente my #1

Some of you need to get a grip. 30 days to go. A whole month. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it isn't going to.

It WILL happen. Don't be a pussy, keep the faith.

Harry's comments today have left me pretty deflated. I thought as manager of the club, his job was to be positive about us. If anything, he's making us less attractive to potential targets.

The way Arry has been conducting some interviews has been worrying it reminds me of the way Woy conducted himself at pool it was all so gloomy. Any prospective player would surely consider the way Spurs are heading in the transfer market and if it appears at least we are not able to compete then what vibe does that give??

Alex McLeish has said that he doesnt expect to do anymore business this window unless more Villa players are sold so I wouldnt hold any hope on Villa spending on our available flops.

Personally I'd be gutted if Diarra, KJH and Farfan were our signings of the summer, thay will not allow us to challenge for the top 4 again. I am hoping we ger Diarra tho.

not very inspiring though is it? If i was modric or even other first team players i wud not exactly be mad to get into training. WE need someone who will give whole place a lift as well as been absolute top notch, no if's and buts. Who? have no idea? How? have no idea but it has and should be done.

afellay is out now as well for 5 weeks. i smell a last day transfer on that one.

And what's going to be different this month as opposed to last month?

It's not about being a pussy! It's about being frustrated!

I'm hoping I'm wrong, believe me.

Diarra and Benzema on loan for a first option on Bale would be an awesome deal. Partly because Mourinho will be the one negotiating this deal at Real, however he's very unlikely to be the one there in 2 seasons time, in fact he's likely to be back in the prem by then.

players already now the way spurs are in market and what they pay , it doesnt take harry to come out and say it.

Proof-- xabi alonso talking about premiership this season

Tottenham have done well, have a great manager but financially they will miss the last push. Liverpool have a fantastic coach and they will improve and Arsenal will be there but won’t arrive.”

I've gone beyond tetchy to 'narked off'.

However this feeling is tempered by realism. There are not that many players that will improve our squad and those that will cost alot both in terms of fees and mostly in terms of wages. At the moment we don't have the wage structure to accomodate those types of players which makes it tricky, and coupled with the fact that there are clubs with a bigger pull than us (both financially and with the Champions League) challenging us for these players, I'm not really surprised that we're struggling to bring in quality players.

At the other end of the market, clubs are having to be careful who they buy due to the 25 man squad and the general financial fug meaning it's hard for us to sell as well.

All in all I don't think that we're doing anything wrong at the moment but if we want to bring in top quality players we'll have to make changes to the wage structure and if we want to sell then we may have to make significant losses. I'm still not sure if that's the best thing for the club. Fortunately it isn't my decision.

I keep hearing this statement and it just isn't true at all. Our current striking options are so poor that we do not need some amazing superstar on £200k/week to significantly improve us where we so desperately need it, ie up front. We just need to show a little bit of imagination and be a lot more decisive.

Diarra + Benzema (loan) for 1st option on Bale would be good

One problem: Mourinho doesn't want to let Benzema go

This is complete bs tbh, as if it was that easy to find replacements we would have already. People seem to love to roll off lists of exotic names who they believe could be sensations in the PL, but how often do those players actually get the opportunity? The answer to that question is 99% do not, as PL scouts do not believe they are good enough for the PL, and I would expect even Norwich's scouts to have far more of a clue of the merits of a player and the likelihood that they would be a success in England than anyone on this board.

And so it begins. Slowly but surely little whispers appear from people high up at spurs about modric..Bloody typical and i alwyas feared it would and will happen. If it does i dont give a shit if we sign no one, i walk away, whats the point -

Lilywhites assistant manager Bond on talksport has admitted every player has his price and, should the club’s valuation for the former Dynamo Zagreb playmaker be met, Spurs would find it hard to keep the wantaway star.
He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show: “Transfers are part and parcel of the game but you don’t want to lose your best players and he certainly is one of our best players.
“We desperately don’t want to lose him but everyone has a price.
“If somebody came along and the money turns your head and he did go - although the chairman is adamant he doesn’t want to sell him - then we’d have to get on with it.
“Harry would have to deal elsewhere in market.”

Serious deja vu there mate. Heard that so many times the last window.

It's all well and good saying we have 30 days left but we only have 2 weeks of preseason.

Again our signings (if any) will be using competitive matches to meet each other!

You could argue that world class players do not need anytime to bed in as they can play anywhere I.e vdv.

The only issue is that we appear to have lost out on numerous targets already to bigger clubs. The longer it goes on the lower down our list we go.

Maybe Zamora as reported yesterday is the best we can hope for.

I think there needs to be a bit of sense applied to our dealings this summer, this will probably be the last big cash cow for players and agents, with the FFP rules applying as we move forward the bottom will fall out of the wage market, the issue isn't World Class and Marketable players earning mega money, as there is a return on this, it is the middle range players who are on too much money.

This is their last chance to get larger contracts I would think, with the FFP only a limited number of clubs will be able to sustain the ridiculous wages, and with a large player base the wages will have to fall, so think we need to remember the market we are operating in.

This will also have a bearing on the transfer fees as clubs will see this as a last chance saloon to get an inflated fee for a player, reducing sell on opportunities and profits in the long term, reducing viability.

I think we should bear this in mind while dreaming / criticizing the clubs policy, I have faith / belief that they are doing their best to get us what we need!

Have to a agree cant see any signing on the horizon! Not sure what's gone/going on at our club but it's been a very depressing summer so far In some ways over past week or so i have come round to sympathising with luka about wanting to leave us (not saying I agree at all with way he has gone about it) but in the transfer Market over past 12 months we have shown an incredible lack of ambition and naivety. Yes people can say we have bid for players like mata, Rossi, Aguero etc but if we arnt going to pay them the going rate in wages for a player of there qualities then surely these bids are nothing more than a fanciful pr stunt to pacify us fans so levy can release his usual statement at the end of the transfer window saying how we bid for all these players but he wasn't going to risk the clubs future paying there wages! He might as well just say he has reassessed our ambition as a club and now are aim is to finish between 10-6th every season and try and qualify for the europa league at a maximum!

I kind of think we need a sporting director again as even though I wasn't comollis biggest fan we never seemed to have the problems in the transfer Market like we have had over past 3/4 transfer windows whilst he was with us.

Nothing has begun there at all. Bond has towed the party line of Levy doesn't want to let him go, so will not.

Saying everyone has their price is common sense; as if Chelsea suddenly bid 60 million for Modric we would be stupid not to sell. However they will not go that high and hence we will feel no need to sell a player for their pathetic offers when it would cost more than that for us to find a similar quality replacement.
