From what he said, I'd think that a deal was perhaps reached with Villa with perhaps a player exchange in place. Now O'Neill has walked, it's thrown everything, so that entire deal is up in the air now. All conjecture, of course.

That would seem the most logical scenario. If POTL is correct though, about the contract stage, it is strange how nobody (National Press included) has picked up on it?

POTL has said that contracts havent been agreed with Young yet as he wants more than we are offering. Surely if we are at the stage of discussing contracts then that means that a fee has been agreed?

Not necessarily—and you're making the rather dangerous assumption that POTL is infallible.

It appears you are making the assumption that I think that, however that isnt the case. What i was saying is that IF POTL was right then that would mean a fee has been agreed. Do i believe that? No i dont

If you meant that, why not post it in the first place and avoid misunderstandings?

If you read my post properly you will see a key word

That would suggest to me that i wasnt claiming POTL was right - i was saying that "if" he were right!

According to the Telegraph, Villa's transfers are largely managed by Paul Walker, so things can't have changed that much. I suspect that its what prompted MON to pull a hissy fit and walk out.

Well, POTL did say

Which to me means there's a lot of confusion going on. The proposed new manager of Villa probably won't want the players we've potentially offered them in the deal - if we have (which I'm presuming as I doubt Levy will want to pay £25m+ on one player). So basically, I can't see this one happening unless we either stump up the cash and offer Young £70k+ wages, or... well, I can't actually think of an alternative when they have no manager in place to deal with.

If we're using ITK as proof, then there has been ITK suggesting that Young wants to come to us.

If POTL says we've been in discussion regarding wages for Young then i'd take it as being true based on POTL's reputation.

If we're discussing wages then we've made an offer to Villa, which they have accepted, otherwise we'd be done for tapping up, which Levy isn't stupid enough to do.

Given that MON walked out on the same day that POTL said we're talking wages with Young, i think it's fair to assume that at least part of the reason for MON walking was that he learned that Villa had accepted an offer for Young.

I would imagine Levy is playing hard ball on wages with Young as he knows now that MON has gone, staying at Villa is looking like a much bleaker prospect than it was 2 days ago.

We don't need to have had an offer accepted to be talking to young, we just need villas permission which they could've have given in anticipation of a fee being agreed. In much the same way that we allowed berba to talk to united before the deal was finalised. You would expect they'd only do that if we were pretty close though.

He's a good ITK, but what does that actually mean. To me it means he's right about 40% of the time. He's not on the THFC board, and he doesn't know exactly what's going on. He might be privy to a bit more info than the average joe but he doesn't know everything. Basically he could of been wrong on this occasion. The lesson here is ITK is not gosspel, don't treat it as such

I think we actually told Berbatov he could talk to City after we agreed a £36 - 38 million fee with them and he took it upon himself to go to Utd's training ground instead

I agree - as i said earlier, i dont believe this piece of ITK as think it would be far wider known if we had agreed a fee for young (which would have to be the case if this ITK is correct).

An easy mistake.

If City want rid of Adebayor they will have to subsidise the extortionate wages they are paying him like Leeds did when Robbie Fowler went to guess who... City, funny old game?
Imagine him scoring for us v Scum his celebration would be three full laps of the pitch not just one length?

It is, was at a stag do in Manchester and we went to see the United old legends playing at Old Trafford. We took a couple of Taxis, but one ended up at City's ground

Pringle, i think sometimes when your close to agreeing a deal a club they let you talk to the player if they think a deal isn't far off. Im sure we have done it before.

That would make sense as well, surely they would at least sound out how interested the player was in moving before fully agreeing the terms of the deal?

There would be no point spending 2 months negotiating with a team, only for them to accept and then the player just turn round and say "Tottenham? Never."

Quiet today...surprising after yesterday's flurry.

Maybe we're just focusing on Saturday's game now.
