Sorry i'm late, the phone hasn't stopped ringing this morning.

Wow. Yesterday's thread ran to 30 pages and the ITK was also flowing nicely. Most of it was about Ashley Young, yesterday's Crouch stuff seems to have been premature. Martin O'Neill quitting Villa Park also stimulated discussion, which should now be directed to the thread in General Football.

We start, oddly enough, at the beginning, when early in the morning, this found it's way to SC courtesy of Scutch IIRC...........
There are whispers on SO that it's £10m cash for Crouch.
Pssst! How do you whisper on a messageboard?

Scutch again
Archie on SO :
We have watched a plymouth player a couple of times pre season...
No idea who but hardly exciting!
Are we sure it's a player and not the Ginsters concession we're after?

Victor Meldrew then asked.........
so we are signing championship players now to add quality to the squad?
Bassong? Bale? Huddlestone? Naughton?

This thread would be empty were it not for Scutch......
Smokeydyid on SO regarding Yannick Djalo :We have 100% held talks with him, as have newcastle. This is coming from someone who works with me who i know for sure is friends with yannick Djalo. It seems that it is not the player himself who will decide where he goes, but his agent. This is what Yannick Djalo told this someone who works with me yesterday on the phone. Now i know for sure they are friends but dont know if the info i recieved is 100%
Don't shoot the messenger. Volunteers required for firing squad duty.

Then some Robbie Keane news
Villa ITK's saying that Robbie Keane is digging his heels in and wants to stay at Spurs until someone tells him differently.
Quite right too. Dig in them heels. And take the pay off you'll be due for not asking for a transfer. Am I cynical or what?

Then the O'Neill effect took hold...........
Sputlrs related ITK from ex villa player Ian Taylor speaking
on talksport.

To the best of his knowledge, it seems that Ashley Young is
on his way to spurs. May be the tipping point that led to MON
walking out.
 We're going to get a lot of this. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

WUM of the year 2007,2008 and 2009 then said.....
I will find out if 'Young is on' later..Scutch knows my BBQ sauce
Should I add a pinch of salt to my spare ribs?

Then POTL entered the great Ashley Young furore
POTL
Don't know who your source is mate, but it is a long way from being done.

Confirm, we are trying for Young. Have only offered him 60k pw on a 5 year deal. Player obviously wants more wages, he is not going to move on the same wages, there would be little point. But also recognises that City, Utd and Liverpool are not interested, and Spurs is the next big club, and it is in London. The player wants to come, but we are going to need to increase our offer.
Watch this space on this one. And don't believe everything you read in the papers.

There is a long way to go with this one, as it involves players. Contracts are not even close to being agreed with Young, Daniel is playing hardball. Not an overnight one this, a lot of work to be done.
A lot of hard work to be done? Get it done quickly! What have you been up to all summer Daniel?

More on the fallout from MON
According to BBC News O'Neill met with Lerner over the weekend and was told that they were selling his players underneath him in Young and Milner so he left.
Obviously, we're all going to assume or hope it's the Ashley Young situation and that we sign him but we've got no choice but to wait and see. This one might take an unexpected twist......

Todays transfer gossip on the BBC says that
Martin O'Neill's departure from Aston Villa could be followed by winger Ashley Young's exit to Tottenham
No shit Sherlock.......

Liverpool are preparing a £12m bid for West Ham striker Carlton Cole after dropping their interest in Tottenham forward Peter Crouch.
West Ham are short of strikers so this would surprise me.

Tottenham are considering a £22m offer for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Yes please. But hardly likely given the wedge he'll want.

One of the parties interested in buying Liverpool - The Sahara Group - has pulled out of the bidding process.
The Sahara Group? Not a good time for them to desert Liverpool is it? :shifty:

And that was that. Lets hope there is as much ITK today. Keep whoring!

Despite them having a sell to buy policy? Could be internal damage limitation talk? I'm all for signing himm, but like everyone else, sooner rather than later!

Young is for sale if he wants to leave, regardless of who the right hand man is.

Here's a crazy out-of-left-field thought; he really does mean that Young isn't for sale.

Everyones for sale, plus if he kicks up a fuss a new manager won't want him.

I don't think they need to sell anyone else when they have Milner. Presumably Lerner will get his way now he'll get £30m. Although I dare say some funds will have to be made available for their next manager.

Indeed. Krulak is a non-executive director at Villa, so arguably a better source of information than any individual "ITK".

Anyway, tomorrow it will be Turan again, no doubt.

Berbatov is not for sale. Keane is not for sale.

It would be so funny if Villa sold their 2 best players and didn't leave time for replacements though :shifty:

I've been trying to get my head round whether it was more or less likely they'd sell Young now MON has walked.

I think the player is gonna have to force their hand on this one and demand a move. Milner will go but I'm not so sure they will sell Young, if we were trying to use players in the deal also then that has probably been scuppered by MON's walkout too.

Perhaps I'm being negative but I'm struggling to see this one happening.

General Krulak, what a bloody fantastic name.

I now have visions of a bloke in a Villa shirt sitting in a underground bunker plotting to take over the world.

But there's no evidence whatsoever that Young's unhappy at Villa, is there?

Well, POTL did say

There is a long way to go with this one, as it involves players. Contracts are not even close to being agreed with Young, Daniel is playing hardball. Not an overnight one this, a lot of work to be done.

Which to me means there's a lot of confusion going on. The proposed new manager of Villa probably won't want the players we've potentially offered them in the deal - if we have (which I'm presuming as I doubt Levy will want to pay £25m+ on one player). So basically, I can't see this one happening unless we either stump up the cash and offer Young £70k+ wages, or... well, I can't actually think of an alternative when they have no manager in place to deal with.

Like I said in PT's version of the thread, I see it as unlikely that anything will happen until after the international friendlies.

I don't think so and reports this morning said certain Villa players were texting each other pictures of champagne bottles when they heard MON had quit! Maybe the choice of new manager will be key in whether AY stays or goes.
