The especially frustrating thing about this is that most of the players we expect to be leaving weren't especially expensive signings. Winks and Kane were academy products, so as far as the balance sheet goes that's over 100 million in profit. I would expect that to be used to write off the hits we'll take on others.

For those with a better grasp of the financial side than me, are transfer fees calculated separately from wages for accounting purposes? I know the reports are that we're expecting to release Lloris on a free, but just to use him as an example, we paid £15 million or so for him in 2012 and are currently paying him 100k a week - would the club still need to justify taking a loss on his fee, or would it be accepted that for a 36 year old saving c. 5m on wages when he's not expected to play after 11 years of service is acceptable?
His transfer fee has long been amortised over his initial contract and therefore no loss whatsoever in letting him go for free now. As you say, it’s actually a benefit as no longer having the liability of his wages.

I think the criticism of Levy is reasonable based on the ITKs comments. It’s spilling across threads because of poor decisions made at board level time and time again.

We’re all desperate for new signings and this has become more emotive now Harry has left.

I am surprised at the change of narrative though from the start of the window where we were going to be ruthless. Something seems to have changed again, yet we’ve heard very little from the club.

Not sure the club are about to announce that Daniel has had a change of tact and has reverted back to type along with his board cronies! Think we all knew it would head this way despite the statement from POK early in the window saying contracts would be ripped up. Re outgoings, why would anyone want to leave their well paying comfortable, not having to play competitive matches, sitting on their ass, training a few days a week job for a location with less pay and worse facilities?

2weeks to go. Yet again a window of disappointment coming up. It’s about time of the window hopes will get increased by links to star player(s) only to not happen and club says “we tried atleast”

It’s funny how people see things differently I suppose….
I see a few people discussing the ITK which happens to be about Levy not accepting offers for our players and a great number of people slagging off said people for it being ‘off topic’. But each to their own I guess 🤷‍♂️
It’s not off topic entirely given the ITK but how many versions of the exact same take are needed to clog up the thread?

There are specific threads for extra-curricular Levy/ENIC bashing so use those, rather than repeat the same thing ad infinitum here.

Applying the same principle, we could discuss Orban’s merits as a player here (thanks to the ITK link) but we don’t because there’s a thread for that. This is why the mods lock threads and come down hard on those who won’t play ball - it’s not hard to have more in depth exchanges in the right places, without clogging threads used for other things.

They'd go if they knew there was no place for them in the squad and their agents would get their thumbs out of their arses to get it done. Getting players we need in first would ramp up that pressure.

It’s also worth mentioning that the constant repetition of the same 3 or 4 viewpoints make the threads pretty unreadable.

You see that and I see the same old things repeated ad nauseum.
I'd welcome discussion which is why I posted in the Levy thread.

Chicken and egg though innit, no new players in till those players out. And look at N'Dom, he clearly won't go anywhere unless it really suits him, not sure there's much anyone can do about him!!

Who died and made you the milk monitor? The ITK directly relates to the issues being discussed, which is what the ITK discussion thread is here for
Whatever, post 309 about 5 up is talking about Jewish origin in response to levy being a parasite. I hardly call that ITK discussion

Seriously guys. There's a Levy thread.

We really don't want any more mention of him in here as it's boring and exhausting.

We know all of his faults, we know what the problems are and we know how everyone feels about him (us included).

Well lets hope we can get a few sales through in the next few days - even one new signing at the moment would change the atmosphere in here a lot.

To be fair making a couple of signings in August without needing a player out is relatively ruthless for this bottom line focused board

We have to remember that the players who are surplus to requirements are human beings not pieces of kit that can be readily sold off. They have families to take care of, children who are at school, preferences as to where they live and hopes and ambitions. How they are encouraged and enabled to move on really matters. Treat a (popular) player harshly and the whole team atmosphere could become poisoned. And more than this, treating people with respect is just the ethically right thing to do.

So some patience is required as the club tries to move these players on.

If the ins are reliant on the outs then that's the ins for us done IMO, minus maybe a late nibble on a random name that gets dropped out of nowhere. Two weeks to get it all sorted, nah.

Terrible.

Yeah most people think it's as easy as just tearing up contracts and telling them to do one. Or that yeah we can just sell the player, no matter the player's personal circumstances and life goings on

Eh that's very pessimistic - by all accounts we have Lloris almost out the door and clearly lots of work being done on Ndombele as well - Ndombele is the big one, if we can finally get rid of him that's a huge chunk of wages off the books for a start. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water just yet, still plenty of time to get things done. It's not like we only have a few days left.
