Surely if we sign say a midfielder before selling a midfielder we would be losing our negotiating power with potential buyers as they know that we have got a replacement in and need to sell, subsequently driving the price down. Likewise, if we sell everyone now then the clubs we wish to buy from will drive the price up because, a) they know we have some cash to spend (albeit less than we would be looking to spend) b) we have to replace the player we just sold.

To maximise value on sales and purchases, we have to time it perfectly. I have no doubt whatsoever that DL is sorting deals (as in getting signatures) but just waiting for the timing to be just right to stop clubs trying to lower or raise prices respectively

The best time to maximise this opportunity iss right at the end of the window when everyone starts to Panic. That is when we will pounce

At this rate is expect us to be signing defoe crouch Keane and pav all on 5 year extensions. There is no positive news yet, the longer we leave it the longer its going to take for the selling club to get a replacement in for the players we are targeting. This will end up like the last two windows.

I think the Journalist did say we were targeting a german CB who could cover at LB too, and doesn't Tasci play at LB sometimes? I never seem to catch Stuttgart games lately but I feel like he played at LB for Germany a couple times.

I don't believe he has ever played there. When he was first coming up, he was shifted to the left center as Del Pierre and Miera were both more experienced and are right footed players. But he is right footed as well.

For Germany, he may have been pressed into the left when the were in the lead once. But not as a LB, per se.

I see we've brought our away kit launch date forward. Is it unrealistic to think this is due to the pending superstriker being signed and the club hoping we all rush out and get his name on the back? Obviously they're assuming the home kits will sell out instantly after his capture so a lot of us will have to settle for the away shirt.

That is a good way of soothing ourselves over the frustration of the past few weeks.

I think he may have played at RB (he's certainly right-footed) but he's really an out-and-out CB.

Supposed to be the great white hope for the German national side isn't he.

Sure DP could comment more on his domestic performances.

never seen him play but surely if he was that then munich wud be all over him? or other top sides? have no idea but if he has real pace thats always a bonus for me

I certainly hope that if an offer firms up for Tacsi then it's not a hurdle in Kaboul's development and unless we see some movement regarding Bassong then I don't see the logic in adding to an already burgeoning squad at a position that isn't particularly problematic at this current junction.

Is it possible that one or more of our players is on a contract that guarantees that they match our top earner (maybe keane) and if we pay a new signing 120k then they also get that. So maybe keane is waiting it out to see if we sign a big name and levy won't sign a big name till he shifts this player. Stalemate. Just a thought.

Cant see levy agreeing to something like that.

Tasci is good in the air and better on the deck. Great in one-on-one situations. Decent pace. Good reading of the game, smart footballer and good composure. The latter wasn't always the case. When he was first establishing himself, I always felt he was a mess if he didn't have Miera or Del Pierre next to him. But over the years, he's started to gain confidence and now is less prone to mistakes. Did have a nagging thigh last year, that sometimes left him slow in the turn or looking immobile. But he wasn't allowed enough time to heal last year as Del Pierre is almost King-like in his injury record and they had lost Khedira and Lens and thus he was their only defensive strength. Seems like it has healed this year (of course I am basing that on one game so its probably wrong). Schooled Huntelaar this past weekend and I thought he was MOM although some would argue it was Cacau.

I would say that his weakness is that he is not very good at carrying the ball out of defense. And while he reads the game well as it comes at him, he doesn't always read it as well when its going away from him. This sometimes leaves him in the wrong position in quick transitions.

That's my 2 cents, at least. Personally I like him a lot.

I know he tends to get bracketted alongside the likes Subotic and Papadopoulos as future top European CBs. He's not fully blossomed yet though.

He's a much greater prospect than Kaboul I would have thought. Could be a new Woodgate (without the injuries) in the making.

I'm assuming this latest ITK came via the public quotes from Tascis agent that we have already expressed an interest

Thought all summer that Tasci is the defender we should buy, if we do indeed go for one.

Not going to get hopes up though, recent events have taking away the buzz of ITK's linking us to players now. Always passed in good faith of course, but one or two of our heavyweights could do with a good call coming to fruition right now !!

It might not seem particularly problematic to you right now, but the very fact that we are reportedly checking out CBs suggests there is a need to strengthen, otherwise we wouldn't be looking, would we?

Ledley continues to defy medical science, but surely he can't defy it much longer.

After a shaky start, Gallas confounded those who thought Harry had lost his marbles, but has he got much more than a season in him?

Bassong appeared to be going backwards.

Corluka isn't as bad as some make out, but he's not that good either and you really wouldn't want him there except in a dire emergency. Ditto Huddlestone.

So that leaves Dawson and Kaboul, the latter of whom we may want at RB (or conceivably, even to cover at DM). Tasci could be a pretty shrewd buy, as a year on his price could have shot up. And it would please a substantial chunk of the population of Tottenham.

Kaboul has all the attributes to succeed and I sincerely hope he is cemented as a starter in some guise this season, either as RB or preferably CB.

In terms of Tacsi and his reputation, I thought Hummels was ahead of him as the future of the German national side and whilst I will bow to more informed opinions of him, I remain to be convinced this is a wise move at this moment in time.
