Pretty sure he goes onto explain it's nothing to do with us but rather agents and players. Why every time deals get delayed or dragged does it immediately go to the club or Levy holding out till deadline day.

I know what you are saying but put it this way:-

How come Cabaye signed for Palace despite there being a good chance a better team would come in later in the window?

Or Payet to West Ham? Or Veretout to Villa (linked to us)? Or the Ayews? Or Affelay and Shaqiri to Stoke?

We probably play a part in it, with all of the above the clubs made their interest real by actually agreeing a fee, leaving the player with a decision to make.

Fair enough on the DM, by all accounts this is a CL player so they will need to be sure we are the best move.

I hope the ITK on the Berahino deadline is true, as this would see us do something similar.

Sure, I get it's a two way thing and we've been guilty of dragging our heels in the past. But it does seem this summer there has been a recurring trend of players/agents/clubs not wanting to do business immediately or have a look at other options. I think we've just been unfortunate in that regard. Hopefully though we'll at least have N'Jie in the next couple of days and if our other targets have to come later as the ITK suggested, so be it.

Crazy idea but why not pay the premium on two players and fck trying to sign a third. Or pay it to sign one player we really need.
That way we'd be stronger and still wouldn't do a Leeds. Tee hee.

11.6 wasn't exactly a steal for Toby, was it? Especially when we'd stumped up 8 for Faz just a year earlier. Priorities?

Nigel can't lead the line, eg in the EL group stages and league cup, can he...?

Even before then, when Stoke are sitting deep and Harry is isolated how do we shake things up? Moving the deckchairs around behind him on 68 mins might not have the desired impact, again. Don't tell me, Soldado is on fire in training and everyone likes him.

Just read Grey Fox's update. If true I cannot believe we might be chancing it till deadline day or close too. I can see us having another Moutinho situation if it's left to then or a plan f. I hope we make some serious inroads soon.

Don't we always leave it for the last minute to get a better price, before generally failing to get the big name player we were after?

Maybe we weren't targeting these players?
Just a thought.

Yeah I do agree it seems we have been a bit unfortunate on these specific targets.

However I'm pretty confident if we actually slapped £20m on the table for Berahino the deal would be done in no time.

Like I said hopefully this deadline is soon and we do see a bid go in. Looking good on N'jie so that's 1/3 almost done.

Oh wow, I didn't consider that...

That clearly wasn't my point, which was that other players signed early for teams that weren't exactly the best they could hope for.

I'm actually glad we skipped most, although worry we might have been happy with Cabaye if DM doesn't pan out.

How do you know they could have gone to better teams?
Your just speculating they could.
If there agents thought they could do better I'm pretty sure they would have.

Edit yes I would have been happy with Cabaye.

How do Berahino and Kramer/Bender know they could get a better offer than us?

I'm fine waiting. I probably change that tune if we look toothless in attack against Stoke, but for now I think we still have the talent to get 3 points from the remaining 3 matches before the transfer window closes.

We obviously need players, everyone knows this, ITK are confirming it and our history suggests we will add at least 2 more players (and even more likely 3).

We just need to be patient because we've all been here before. It's not new territory at all and we need to have faith that all the positive vibes that the ITK have alluded to remains present.

Exactly, from those players, most have a reason for going i.e I don't think they're good enough so they've gone to a team that suits them atm. Maybe they'll turn out to be better but atm, thats where they should be playing. Cabaye is the only one I'd have wanted, and after a miserable season at PSG, maybe he just wanted to play for Pardew again and re-gain his form etc. So maybe that was his first choice even if we were in the running.

I think we have gained a reputation as a stepping stone to the top top clubs in world football...

Players now are so lazy that they think being linked with us is enough of the stepping stone, and then wait a couple of months for the top top clubs to come in for them.

If West Ham, Stoke et al come in for them , they have come to terms with the fact (after counseling) that that's their lot in life to never progress beyond their current limitations.

If we're leaving our remaining transfer dealings till the final day of the transfer window. There is the very real possibility that we will not find enough suitable players left for us to improve the team. I wonder if we are really just planning to pick up one new player, and then perhaps bring through more of the younger players to fill any gaps i.e. Pritchard, Velkovic etc. That's what I think may happen, either way the final day of transfer window might be quite a dramatic one.

Souness went because he was homesick, stretched my limited vocabulary to the edge of incredible, try as I might, I cannot get Peter Crouch and amazing into the same sentence.
I think you're confusing two things here - it certainly wasn't because he was homesick. Maybe for another thread.

That decision became a lot easier when Palace agreed to pay the asking price for him. If Palace were kicking the tyres for a few weeks in the hope of a discount he might have kept his options open.

If the goats right and we put a near asking price bid in at this proposed deadline, I'd expect Berahino to sign much like Cabaye and the other players mentioned did.

I'm wondering (with a distinct colouring of white and blue maybe distorting my view), if perhaps our committee is pitching and discovering, as should be expected, that there lies additional interested parties, that in fact if the target is dithering in hope of a slightly higher step than Spurs, that our esteemed committee shouldn't ought to retort by saying fuck you then if you don't want in on our journey, and move quickly and quietly on.
