I agree with the sentiment but I think holding on to him outweighs this risk of the negative ripple affect so to speak, as the wider implications have always been the priority - for me anyway. The more pertinent point here is can we capitalise on keeping Modric this summer because if we can't what the hell is the point in going through all of this?

Keep him - and improve this squad so it has a serious chance of competing at the top end of the table this season, which ultimately he wants.

or sell him - if we dont have the intention of being more ambitious right now, at this point in time as thats likley to influence his stance now, he's thinking of his own career as all players do.

For me its that simple, no in between....where are we now? what route are we going down?...that should reflect if he's sold or not, IMO anyway.

If we cant up the stakes of ambition, within reason, and it has to wait until a new stadium is built, and solely on that, then we should sell him IMO.

If we can, keep him all day long.

I guess this should go to chat though....the Modric thread.

Aye, this is a situation that needs to have a conclusion one way or the other in this transfer window.

Without talking any more on the subject I just hope that come 1st September we can all, or at least the majority of us fans can agree that we are in a better position in terms of us competing for honours and ultimately a Champions
League berth.

Although i know Liverpool have overpaid for their signings, is anyone else frustrated that they have spent 100+m pounds in signings since January and we've spend 0. Considering we have got a better squad and we only need two/three top class additions, its pretty annoying in my opinion.

If Adam and Downing slot in nicely, which I think they will, next to the likes of Gerrard, Meireles, Suarez, Carroll etc...they could score a lot of goals next season...all of their midfielders are capable of scoring 10 plus a season Eek

not to mention the deliver/service Carroll will get...

I think that's one of the reasons why. Yes we only need two or three signings but because we already have a pretty good set of players the players who we do buy really have to be top notch and would of course be harder to bring in.

It's easier to make a team that needs many improvements better than it is to make a pretty good team just that much better, I think.

Not to mention Henderson and Lucas in midfield. Couldnt we try a bid for Meireles whose being linked with a move away from Liverpool. Was by far one of their best players last season.

I find it annoying that we've not yet managed to sign our SuperStriker, but not because of Liverpool's signings. They've overspent on a lot of mediocre players who are certainly no improvement on our own current squad - definately not jealous of them (admirable though they've gone for British)

no. if we made their signings (other than suarez), there would be a riot here.

probably - but more becuase of the prices they've paid...7 million for Adam isn't bad to be fair - 20 million for Suarez is about right, but 75 million for Carroll, Henderson and Downing is pretty :eek:mg:

I can't help it, but every time I see Modric's face it really pisses me off...

EDIT: Wait shit, this should be in the Modric thread, sorry.

Seeing how close we were to Chelsea and Arsenal last season and they havent signed anyone yet and Arsenal probably losing Cesc or Nasri, with a superstriker and two more additions, we could finish on top of them this year. It all depends where DL wants us to go, stay as we are or really push for glory

Notice it has always been the Mail and Telegraph that have broken the Modric stories. Fun times.

Fuck credibility! No point in cutting off your to spite your face, and those sorts of players would take us to another level - enabling us that credibility a lot of people are banging on about :p

:-D

They seemed happy for him to go to Blackburn for £4m a month or so ago - it was the player who didn't want to go.

Also, he would fit my 4-4-2 diamond system better than Charlie & Hutton

:hump:

:-(

TBF, Christophe, I just totally disagree with you - totally. So there really isn't much point in going into further detail if you can't see the negative effect having zero credibility will have on our club and our Chairman.
I just wished we could inhabit alternative Universes and you could support a Spurs that made did what you advocate even though it would mean our Chairman and our club had zero credibility. You would see that it would fook us far more than just replacing one good player with another one would. It would fook us, and put us back further than losing Keane and Berbatov did. You could support that Spurs and see the consuences of doing what you advocate, while I could support a different Spurs that wasn't affected by that at all.
Hate to disagree with you, but that's the way of it.

Yep. Liverpool have already made an outlay of £45m this transfer window so far, with no rumours that any key players will be leaving.
