Ask yourself if an extra 60-70k a week would make a difference in your life. He has a small opportunity to make an incredible amount of money, why not take advantage of that? (Hoping the players don't read this forum lol)

I have no problem with him wanting as much as he can get, footballers have short careers, but he will earn more in a year than any normal person will earn in a lifetime (probably 2). I just hate the "earning for his family" argument, if he doesn't have the cash in the bank or investments that's his problem, at this point it's just greed.

I would agree with that but we don't have any young players for him to be mentoring, or that will want to benefit from it. We need here and now players that can form the backbone of the team for the next 4 years. The journey accelerates now

o_O Winks, Onomah Luke Amos, TOB, Skipp. All young CM's who could benefit from Modric, if he were to come back.

If Winks could spend a year being mentored by Modric and watch him both in practice and in matches, I can see how much it could potentially help him go to another level. Outside of Eriksen, there isn’t another player similar to him in our squad. Our midfielders are either battle anchors (Dier and Wanyama), ball protectors and gliders, (Dembele) or just plain shit (Sissoko). Modric is closer to Winksy in terms of body type and attributes. Admittedly, luka is an outstanding, skillful player, that can tackle, dribble, pass, and control the ball like few others can in that position. But unless Harry can figure it out by himself, there ain’t no one in our current midfield cadre that can teach him more than tackling, positioning, shielding, and hiding (Sissoko’s number 1 skill)!!! He needs a mentor that he can learn about awareness, passing, reading the game, dictating tempo, etc from the engine room.

Do not think Alderweireld deserves a new fat contract. A sulking idiot who has largely delivered a poor season with little impact and created a fuzz is unworthy. If he has all of the sudden fully recomitted and is gung-ho about next season, yeah maybe a little improvement is fine. But he is not worthy of a golden contract, the way he has behaved and most importantly played on the pitch.

Maybe winks, but Onomah, Amos, TOB and Skipp have to be Modric type players. Onomah is Def not that.

The boost modric and bale would give to this squad would be unbelievable. They would set the standards raise the bar that extra 5%. Teach others how to win big games. 33 is nothing now, and it’s not about him being the main player. It would change everything.

All very exciting and I don't doubt any of the info at all but anyone who has seen the way that Levy operates as far as transfers go is bound to be a bit nervous at this stage. It sounds like we are either going to have a massive transfer window or lose our manager and best players.

Can Levy change the habit of a lifetime and go in early for the targets the manager actually wants rather than wait to see what's left in the bargain bucket at the end? I really fucking hope so but regardless of the promises he has made privately I will believe it when I see it.

Poch obviously feels the same way, if he 100% trusted Levy's assurances I can't see why he would feel the need to put this kind of pressure on publicly, especially as that's not the way he usually goes about stuff.

Cheers GF! Interesting that you even need to supply Levy with a list of "not wanted" (unless this is in reference to contracts rather than signings).

What makes me moderately confidence despite all the cycles (in terms of transfer windows - not the vast improvement we have still managed to deliver) of whispered promises vs. very underwhelming reality is Poch playing his hand strongly from the front this time - the first time I believe he has done this and from Levy's perspective if he really is a shrewd businessman then he will concur that sometimes you need to speculate to accumulate and with all of the infrastructure in place, great TV revenue + CL guarantedd again, a fantastic nearly there squad assembled on the relative cheap and the best manager we have had in generations - if not now then it will clearly be never - the fans will see through that relatively swiftly and he may quickly be left with a half filled white elephant at the current ticket prices. Think Poch using the media in this way is pretty clever personally as he is making it clear his demands are not unreasonable vs. our supposed rivals and there is no reason for us not to be fighting on the same playing field now ex Manc clubs

In fact is Levy doesnt back him this summer hes not a shrewd businessman at at all and just a bean counter and it will be clear it is him and not Poch that has taken as far as they can

Given our history it's OK to be cautious, but as Hercules says having made the investment in the stadium this is not the time for bed wetting. It is just about the speed and timing of investment. Standing still with the team is just not an option and Levy/Lewis know that.

That makes sense and I really hope you're right

I agree with what you're saying. The problem I have is that isn't this a similar situation to when we qualified for the CL under Redknapp? I know the TV revenue wasn't as big then, but on the flip side we didn't have the stadium to pay for.

As ever, it's encouraging, but I'll believe it when I see it.
