Problem is Trix that if we want to make a decent showing in the CL and genuinely compete for the PL, we need players of his quality now, With the domestic cups as well the squad does not have sufficient strength in depth to genuinely compete in 4 competitions.

I would hope we are further along than that personally. I like many feel we are lacking some extra guile in the final third and with such a big season coming up and with a few looking surplus to requirements (Bentaleb, Chadli et al) I would hope Poch feels the same.
The worry with a player like him is that he is on the cusp of better things. A move to a Porto or a another top European club other than ourselves may give him that platform to a level where the uber clubs become attracted.
I understand its a waiting game, but if Poch really likes what he sees surely its better to go for him now before he gets his move to Porto before joinging Chelsea in two seasons time.

You would like to think that all relevant parties are thinking the same but i cant help feeling that we are going to be left dissapointed come the end of august.
The club have done some good work in finding someone like poch who has shaped the side remarkably well so far, but i always feel that we are always left 1/2 players short every window leaving us always nearly but not quite.

I'm sure every club always thinks they are 1-2 players short. After the Bale Window I'm sure we all felt like we were missing something aswel, despite signing half of Europe.
I think we really need 1 more player as it stands and that would be a pacey AM with some guile to go with it. If we had Hazard or someone similar in our squad it would be hard to spot weaknesses.

I think asking for a perfect squad is too optimistic to be honest. This idea of having a complete squad doesn't really exist. There is no chance of having 24+ players that everybody is happy with. Sir Alex never had the perfect squad on paper, he always had the likes of Fletcher to 'do a job'. What he had was a great team morale and winning mentality between the players. There were occassions where players were asked to cover in another position because he didn't always have a natural choice there.
I think we have a solid squad that finished 3rd in a season with a lot of European football and with its low average age will naturally improve again this season. Every season we seem to have at least one position that fans are worried about yet we still go on to do well (Dier making defensive midfield his own last season for example). I think fans can get a bit too obsessed with having the perfect squad on paper. It's easy to say we're missing something when we don't win a game but we're not going to win every game. That doesn't mean we need to go out and sign somebody.

We had a big increase in regular donators last year but most cancelled or lapsed after a few months :-(

IMO if we are to get just 1 more player then it needs to be a CM playmaker (in the Modric mould). Our flair players all play in the final third and it's our inability to get the ball to them in good positions that stops us breaking teams down, especially if the opposition set up to prevent our full backs getting forward. However I'm not sure that any ITK has identified such a target?

Or a 'I donated' codpiece to be worn every match day?
I'd imagine advert money may add more than what that would bring in unless alot of people sign up for it. Maybe if you open up the mod forum to subscribers and let us see how much they shit on us regular people
Or close off the itk portion of the board to subscribers only. But that might cause alot of backlash.
IMO, if more people made bets with each other on here with the proceeds going to SC it could eventually add up.
