Did people here really expect us to lump 30m on a player, just because we are in the CL?!

I just don't get it. We are doing great as a club. We are stable, and we have a transfer system to keep us stable. The amount of risk/reward ratio in a player like this is much more favorable than a high profile player. We won't be buying a Lacazette, Mkhitaryan, Pjanic until we have the new stadium for a few years and can afford the wages they will command.

Ask yourself what's better, us paying a top player out the ass and hoping we get the CL we need to afford them....

OR

Trusting in our scouting system and our manager in bringing in the right players for our system.

Only one of those options is sustainable for us. We are not Chelsea, United or City. If we sign a high profile player, we would literally be dependent upon making the CL. That is tough and not guaranteed. We need to scout well and bring in players before they are highly rated. This is the way it is going to be for some time. Be happy with the football we have been seeing and back the players whom we bring in.

I agree but this doesn't really factor in the huge TV windfall everyone has received and is allowing clubs Crystal Palace to be bidding on guys like Batashuyi. The bar has been raised and whilst l like the way we are going aout our business and hopefully we have picked up a E30m player for E17m in Jansens and Wanyama is more than adequate cover for Dier, our business so far doesn't suggest we have picked up any of the top level match winners that I think we lack for a bargain price.

As such I think we will remain an effective, hard working side but I don't think we have changed the equation that led to us drawing so many games last year - unfortunately in the current market changing that dynamic will require spending £30-£40m on that kind of player

In a chat about central attacking midfielders Ali z on COYS is saying we are still in for one. Saying we've looked at Coric for example. It's just a general chat so probably not read only worthy.

I think it is good to start looking for players to develop over 2-3 yrs since we have Ali and Eriksen there.

Ok 2 completed and 3rd very close to competetion if you believe reports and ITK. Either way we are obviously working hard to get all deals done early
I like the 'deals done early'. Who we get depends on so many factors but assuming the players we have bought and are after fit into a master plan than at least we can look forward to hitting the ground running when the season starts. We all know that has been a big problem for us over a number of years as transfers out and in have hung over us until the end of August.

Would love Coric, seems to be one of the hottest young prospects in Croatia at the moment. If we could get him I could see the Modric comparisons (although he plays further forward)

Doesn't start much for Dinamo mainly used as a sub. Regarded higher in Croatian from who I've spoken to than Hallilovic

With Wijnaldum being mentioned as a potential part ex for Pritchard, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the player whom is seen as being able to play as a CM or AM. Then again it could be Coric as he's may be seen as you said - becoming another Modric.

reading what people are saying about couple of ITK's calling everything right so far.
Seems to me they have confirmed thing happening when they are well done the line and in the news.
Clearly a holding back on information these days by people around the club
So things like cryptics will probably be very rare these days i think

Agreed, which is a shame because cryptics are one of my favourite (albeit equally funny and frustrating) things about SC transfer windows.

I like what we're doing so far. I must admit, though, I am longing to see us pick up an established top class player as well. Look at the lift to the whole place VDV and Davids gave us. Someone with a wealth of experience at the top and someone to lead by example. Someone to, for instance, have a word in Alli's ear if he's getting wound up. I know both of the examples I've cited were not quite at the peak anymore, but their sheer class brought an invaluable extra element to the team. I hear all the arguments about we can't afford to, we don't need to, in Poch we trust etc etc, but if we don't want to implode spectacularly again when the pressure is really on, imo it would be worth every penny. I'm not talking about £100m on Pogba or something, just a 25-30 million on a proven winner.

ps Anybody else think Pogba is vastly overrated???

Don't you think we actually have to sign the players first before we start commending on "deals done early" Its not too late to revert to long drawn out sagas!

Would love Coric but isn't he heading to Liverpool?

Pretty weak, but a poster on the Harry Hotspur blog is saying that we have signed Yunnus Malli from Mainz. Attacking mid 11 goals in 36 appearances playing for Turkey.

First I have heard of this.
Pretty weak?

I don't know what's worse, mentioning Harry Hotspur, or actually putting it in the ITK thread.
