Great news on Townsend. That's not meant in a disrespectful way, but he's had so much opportunity to adapt his game and become more of a team player but has never really shown any signs of doing so.

Another season like last and his value will really plummet this time, so Levy would be mad to turn down around 12-15 million for him.

He'll probably do better for Villa being one of their main men. That's what he wants, the individual acclaim rather than putting the needs of the team first.

Top bloke though but think this would be best for all parties if we receive a good bid.

I'm not sure I understand Jasper's info.

So we are working on two players, a DM and a Striker, and if they come off we'll be pleased.

But we are also in for McCarthy (presumably not one of the two above) and he is expecting a Belgian forward (also not one of the two above)?

JJ did advise not to get too caught up in the Belgian forward link though..

Not going to happen. We're overloaded with central mids.

We shall see. Time will tell. Last season (minus Bentaleb and Mason) we have Capoue, Stambouli, Paulinho and Holtby (out on season loan) and lets put Dembele at AM. That is 2 + 3. and all those 3 are above 21 years of age. Presently we have (minus Bentaleb and Mason) Alli. That's 2 + 1. Alli is a free pick and just like Bentaleb and Dier no need to be registered as 1 of 25 players. So i will not be surprised if we bring in 2 more DCMs, considering Stambouli is near to an exit. If its only 1 DCMs coming in, i believed the likes of Winks (if he is not out on loan) or Veljkovic will see some time playing as the DCMs.Maybe one of Winks or Veljkovic is what Jasper is alluding to working on DM and if successful coming to first team, we will be pleased?

Townsend will have a decent Premiership career but not with us long term imo - so if we can sell him now I would be happy plus he is still probably worth a few bob. I suspect his value will erode over time once those who do not see him every week begin to notice his failings more and more.

JJ has already said we're only signing one midfielder.

When Stambouli leaves we'll have Bentaleb, Mason, Dembele, Alli(who will be competing for a first team place), Carroll, Onomah, Winks.

It would make sense to only add one to this if we are serious about providing a genuine path to the first team for our youth products.

Can't see Carroll being with us at the end of the window personally.

I wouldn't mind lukaku but I thin I would go for Michy Batshuayi, Youri Tielemans or Dennis Praet
It ain't gonna be lukaku - costs etc.
It'll be someone more raw who's been identified as having the ability to grow into a great player, with a good sell on value. I'm totally happy with that philosophy. There's a chasm between us and the big spenders. That's why - I believe - we're adopting a more viable approach to decent players: coaching/scouting staff, and a Smooth Operator (sadé) Levy doing their stuff. Good luck to Andros; do well at a mid table club I feel

Ok, you make sense as well. If you are correct (and see my updated post that you were replying to), maybe what Jasper was alluding to is one of Winks/Veljkovic (DMs) and one of Chadli/Coulthirst (Striker. Chadli conversion to Striker) are what the club is working on? If it is successful, im sure the majority here will be happy. Of coz to be happy, these will be on top of a new DM and WF/Striker signings.

That sounds about right to me.

But there's not all that much value left in the players we need to shift though - Chiriches (£6m), Stambouli (£5m), Lennon (£8m), Kaboul (£1m), Ade (£0m), Soldado (£8m) doesn't even give us £30m to play with.
Think it's more the wages

not a huge fan of Townsend, frustrates the life out of me but makes no sense to sell the only piece of genuine attacking pace we have in the whole squad making us even more pedestrian when transitioning play ..... unless of course one of these very young, cheap possible newbies will provide it
