Might be intending to sell 7 players but we probably won't sell 1 with Levy's demands and players refusing to go.

Seeing as we don't seem to do net spends we'll have to sell before we buy and DL will have to reduce prices to sell a few, which is not going to happen. The lack of outgoings is a big concern and will have a major impact on incoming players.

I don't think its quite as clear cut as that. The info isn't saying that we might have to sell players we don't want to...its saying we might have to consider others who arn't on that list of seven.

So if we drafted up a list of seven, there might also be some players who arn't on that list but still have a question marks beside them etc.

It doesn't mean we'd have to start selling the likes of Lloris, Vertonghen, Eriksen etc. That would be entirely different.
Yeah, I assumed that much.. I was thinking more along the lines of selling Chiriches because Dawson won't go in order to get MM or Capoue instead of Sandro/Paulinho/Dembele to get MS in...

I've never found any of our transfer windows to be "shambolic"- Southampton's transfer window this summer has been exactly that.

I honestly don't know when we've had a truly shambolic window. The Saha+Nelson one maybe? Even when we didn't get Moutinho, the window was nowhere near shambolic.

Season and season we've ended up with an unbalanced squad. We've gone through whole seasons with a striker shortage, no left sided players, 1 grossly under performing left back, a centre back crisis etc etc etc. Then there's the outgoing side, with Levy asking for over the odds for under performing players, resulting in the club being stuck with them and thwarting potential incoming signings.

This season pro's:

Vorm was a decent signing, as was Dier who looks like being a great find.

Negs:

Davies, £10m straight down the toilet. He's no better than Rose, but in Rose's defence, he's looked much improved since Poch came to the club.

We still desperately need another quality centre back, yet all the chat coming out of Villarreal suggests the chances of us signing MM are getting slimmer by the day.

MS, do we need him? I'd say yes. Will we get him without being held to ransom? I doubt it

Were we toothless in attack against West Ham? yes, Will we get a quality wide player who can influence matches? I doubt it

Are we asking over the odds for squad players? Yes, impact - we'll once again struggle to sell them.

It's a nice optimistic way of looking at it but it didn't say 'ideal list'. Ignoring Eriksen, Lamela and Vertonghen that leaves most of others. Besides the point selling players who weren't on list to sell is a ridiculous policy. Not saying is the case but you name Dembele swap that for Capoue and not sure you'd feel as good.

Its not optimistic, its just common sense.

We have a massive squad. There are more than seven players in this squad that I'm sure we'd entertain offers for.

If the ITK was saying we might have to sell some of our best players to bring targets in - that would be very different.

Are there? Beyond the youngsters and this apparent list of 7 we're getting into the subs. Someone like Holtby for example.

Yeah I see exactly where you're coming from mate.

Just think there's load of permutations that people probably wouldn't be upset with, no matter who's on the list of seven, given how big the squad is.

I was thinking this could be a great window a couple of weeks ago, with itk saying we're close to snapping up MM, with MS looking very likely to happen... but now things look far from rosey, and there's been a distinct lack of recent itk re MM.

Hold your complaints until the end of the transfer window FFS, then they become more valid. We have no idea if we're going to sign MM and MS so you can't put that in a negative list yet.

As for your comment about Davies, I'm not going to even dignify it with a response.

As far as i'm concerned, our legitimate targets for this window remain Musacchio and Schneiderlin ergo players we need to shift are Dawson and Sandro.

Then we go into the realms of possibilities which might well dictate who we sell in order to facilitate a purchase and these would lead me to suggest that Depay, Martial and (speculatively) one of the Serie A trio of Tevez, Llorente or Destro which therefore would make Townsend, Chadli and dare I say it, Soldado vulnerable to being sold (discounting Lennon and Adebayor who almost certainly won't go, nor are there suitors).

Which would leave IMO, Chiriches, Dembele, Paulinho and Holtby as players who could be sold if an offer came in that Levy would consider extremely appealing.

Over the years our illustrious leader has brought in many, many players some very good, others ok and some just plain useless. Each manager during this time has had their bucket list and where they've coincided with Levy's policies, particularly regarding age (resale value) and price, a few have been brought in. To my knowledge no manager has ever fully been given the players they've asked for. Personally I would be more than happy to see Mauricio given the players he feels we need, more than those where Levy believes he's getting a deal.
