Maybe Hercs not happy because he what was coming out of the club was spending big on quality and now when it comes down to it we are going to be back to normal and Penny pinching at the end of the window with the likes of James and Traore.

We've signed 10 first team players this year (11 if you count making Romero permanent). If anyone thinks we should have signed more then they're being very unrealistic. It's incredible work done so far. The fact that the squad on paper doesn't match the title contenders just shows how much work was needed. It was always going to take a few windows to rebuild. What it does mean though is that next year we don't need such a high turnover of signings. It also means we still have a strong squad to compete and get top 4 with an outside of a trophy. There's also a chance of overachieving under Conte.

Pretty simple.

If Conte is happy with what we've got for now then we should be.

If he's not....that's entirely different.

I'm happy with our window, Yes we didn't get the main CB target but that will have to wait. The squad has been strengthened in other areas and overall has more depth and balance than we have had in a while.

Still expect Gil's replacement to come in most likely Traore atm.

I think it’s because it was reported that we could spend far more than we actually have by multiple sources, including Ali Gold.

What it boils down to and with the greatest of respect to people that have more insight than me is certain individuals chase the names rather than the requirements - therefore they become unhappy. We have a manager that moulded Victor Moses of all people into an effective RWB because it suited his system, he pushed Perisic into a LWB position because it worked for his system. Conte has always signed what he needs and multiple people such as Trix have referenced it before - a set of requirements rather than a specific name.

I'm sorry a portion of this forum are still only interested in the names but if that was how football worked United would have been title chasers for quite some time now, reality is a very different beast

Who’s to say that the spending won’t continue in January and next summer? The most important thing is that we back Conte’s ideas.

If he sees weaknesses in the squad but is not satisfied by the options that are available in this market to address those areas, we’re better off being patient than with bringing in sub-standard signings who will go on to become deadwood.

Our recruitment had been so woeful for so long that it was always going to be a gradual process to rectify it. Conte himself has suggested as much. So long as he remains happy with the manner in which he is being backed, we’ll be headed in the right direction.

And the thing with Traore...you'd expect it to be a deal that could be done quickly given the previous work done on it etc

Could pull the trigger late on it...

Maybe it's because some think we will get another 150 next window... and the next again... and so on ??‍♂️ ... we have to spend everything at once apparently.

I'd be happy with him on loan, not so happy with a 4-5 year contract.
Think he only has one year left, so can't be a loan unfortunately. I'm not his biggest fan, 26 years old and no one big has ever come in for him and he doesn't start matches!

If this really is were we at, which it seems we are, then i really hope its a loan. I'm still not a fan of his tho. Feel's like a desperation signing to me. But will of course support him if he comes.

And nobody will truly know unless they are sitting in a room with him.

Yeah I get that and it will be interesting if it does happen what type of deal it is.
I just think purely from a style of play and a fit for conte’s system he could be very a good signing
