I know, I have said previously he should back him or sack him, and do it fast.
I have also said that if we are going to be in limbo nfor a year, I think we would be as well making the change now, and that is not anti-'Arry, or wanting 'Arry out, it is recognising that the situation can lead to stagnation.
The clue, really was "if I were Levy and I were going to keep him", because, if I were Levy, I would be thinking that the guy is 65, has had heart problems, and he hasn't got CL football next season (which I, personally, would say he had won the right to compete in), and I just would't feel comfortable offering the guy a new ontract. If I had everything in place for him leaving (as everyone thought the England job was his), I would go ahead and do it. Levy is usually quite decisive and totally ruthless...and TBH I am surprised he didn't end the relationship and just go for Rodgers, if that was what he wanted, and I think Liverpool going back in for him caught Levy on the hop a bit.

Whether he was caught on the hop over the Rodgers affair i don't know... if he was really sure about Rodgers i think he would have stepped in the moment Liverpool made their move and we don't know that he didn't, though probably unlikely. He might have wanted more time to think about it I guess, but Rodgers is still a gamble and we know what we get with Harry, so Levy might well have decided to keep HR on that basis.

On the rest, you and I are in full agreement.

I think Harry will get some form of extension, whether he accepts what i believe to be a tepid offer i don't know.

Heck, maybe they're swigging cold ones on deck chairs laughing at our postings in here, contracts extended, signings identified. :cautious:

You're still asking why is he a member of his own family, rather than why isn't he at Spurs signing a contract. ;)
Taken out of context - which it definitely is - it is merely a plaintive cry for the location of the "missing" defender.

Maybe a better literary reference would be " They seek him here, they seek him there, those Yiddos seek him every where. Is he in heaven? Is he in hell? That damned elusive Vertonghen!" Happier? ;)

This could not be further from the truth

Disagree on a general level (obviously).

US - generally tubby and unfashionable. But as we're quoting (ish) the Big S, 'Beaty is in the eye of the beholder' so I accept you may enjoy a lump.

And yes I have been there - up and down whole west coast from Seattle to San Diego.

I think this Vertonghen deal is off taking too long
Good positive vibes there. But yes, if this the time it takes for a player practically gagging to join to sign, it's going to be an exhausting summer, even by usual standards.

I wonder if the reason its so quiet is that all the ITKs/contacts are in the meeting with Levy & Harry?

Seriously guys stop panicking about Vertonghen, there is nothing to suggest any deal is off. So just relax and wait and see what happens

I think I should come back here August 31... don't see anything coming until then. Disappointing....

Could be they wanted him to come through the England vs Belgium game unscathed first?! medical set for afterwards maybe? That way if he had a bad injury we won't have signed someone we can't use?!

Just a guess, kinda makes sense.

according to 3 ITK'S, Vertonghen will be signed before the weekend meaning today. It's getting very frustrating now, wish we would do things quicker.

Just huddled in the wardrobe, praying nobody farts or jockeying for position outside the door, their sweaty red ears pressed against it.

Amazing really. 3 months ago if we offered him massive money and a new contract he wouldn't have signed. Now it's all changed. I really don't know what I want to happen. Harry has been good for us, but he would have left us in a heartbeat.

And that my friend is why we tie him down to a long term contract! Long term contract big compensation package to wherever he shoots off too!

If he is not in Mr Levy's plans then forget this comment lol :)

This of course brings in to play the slight risk that he has a stormer in front of all of the Premier League's watching managers/scouts - not that they won't know about him already - and another club steams in, prepared to pay exactly what Ajax are asking up front, with no mucking about, and offer Vertonghen a hefty wage and signing on fee, thus blowing us out of the water and leaving it to Vertonghen's goodwill to demand to be allowed to join us instead.

Well now, you're just being all sensible and stuff.

I make you right btw.

He's just waiting to get his name changed to B.e.r.y.l by deed poll because, y'know, it's hilarious.

No I think it's all signed and sealed with just the "formality" of a medical to pass, sensibly scheduled AFTER the match (next day for example) in case he breaks down.

I guessed the first signing would be made on July 2nd, so you're all going to have to wait a while yet ;)
