Kaboul > Cahill.

I think that comment comes with an element of Spurs bias to it. Cahill is a good CB, who is good in the air, is comfortable with the ball at his feet, can shoot and generally does the basics well. Kaboul is very similar to him in many respects, however I imagine many neutral fans will say Cahill is better as he gets caught out of position less and seems to be able to position himself more naturally when defending. Thats not saying I agree with them, more that I don't think any Spurs fan can give anymore then a somewhat biased opinion of each players particular merits especially when their virtues are so similar.

I like Cahill, I think he is a good defender and I'm not sure where it has come from that he has no pace because he definitely isn't slow. But the problem is he isn't top top drawer. If we are going to sign a defender he has to be absolutely top class (or offer something distinctly different) otherwise we may as well stick with Dawson, Gallas, Kaboul, Bassong and Ledders.

Where does Kaboom play for France? I always saw him as a RB.

Did you not see him playing rb at the end of the season? He is clearly a cb. He refused to go forward and utilise the space left by vdV cutting in, which actually surprised me as you would imagine Kaboul would be ok at getting forward. But having watched those games towards the end of the season I am left in no doubt that Kaboul is not a rb.

Dan Ashcroft just made that up for some reason....

He`s only 24 and he`s deffo better than Bassong. Learning from King & Gallas won`t be bad for him either.

It just seems to be in people's mindsets that an English cb is slow until proven fast. I don't know why, it is just people's default setting to imagine a cb as slow if they have a dull, English-sounding name.

I guess I'm still daydreaming about the cross/shot that crouch nodded in against city.

He isn't top class, I agree. But he's better than Bassong, fitter than Gallas and King and less prone to the occassional brain fart that Dawson and Kaboul are susceptible to.

If we can sign him for whatever fee we get for Bassong + £4-6m, I'd be happy with that.

Cahill is a very good, still young, English centre back who, in my opinion, would be a starter for us as he's capable of providing the back line with the consistency we lacked there last season.

You don't always need superstar players. Having a backline of Corluka-Dawson-Cahill-Assou-Ekotto backline all season is much more beneficial to the team than constantly rotating half fit Gallas, King and Woodgate every other game.

Kaboul can play RB, in the same way that Gallas can. Neither of them like doing it, or particularly excel in the position but they are both good enough players to fill in there. Kaboul's future is definitely at CB tho.

That was an entire season ago, dude. I think at the back end of 09/10, a lot of people were believing Kaboul could be our new right back.

Last season though, he proved that he shouldn't be. Very good centre back, mediocre at best at right back.

If our existing centre backs were consistently fit, I'd say no thanks. But as at least 1/2 of them are always injured at some point, Cahill will be a very shrewd signing ... as long as were not paying £15/16 million for him.

However, as some have said .... I hope it doesn't push Kaboul further down the pecking order. Obviously, subject to how they all perform in pre season, ideally I would be quite happy with Kaboul and Cahill being our preferred pairing come the new season.

Maybe we aren't expecting to keep Woodgate and Bassong... also Gallas is 34 in August. He can't go on forever, if we can get Cahill now then why not?
