Would westbrom mug themselves off by making that powerful statement on Tuesday and selling him by Saturday? I'm sorry but i really can't see it

Wasn't all that powerful a statement though was it?

Peace came out and said that they have "no interest in selling Saido" and then stated "I know we are living in an age where no club can say 'never' about the possibility of selling a player". In the same press release.

Wouldn't be too hard to turn around after a good offer for Berahino and say "it's the world we live in".

Wouldn't be surprised if we pushed on WBA as Paul said, gotten to the point of the window where we (and other clubs) want their business done and where other deals happening can cause problems to deals that are being worked on.

Am I the only one not seeing the idea of Fazio and Berahino being split into seperate deals? Surely, if done this way both clubs will have to pay more in taxes this way? Perhaps they are just being announced as seperate deals, but is basically a swap + cash to suit both clubs.

There's also the very good chance that I am completely wrong though... :(

I reckon the fees will officially be 'undisclosed' and I think the accounts will only show an overall player trading figure for the financial year rather than details of individual deals. I would hope that HMRC wouldn't be too interested in what the media happen to "understand" from their "sources" in relation to transfer fees.

Exactly what I said a few days ago. They give us £5m for Fazio, in a separate deal we give them £25m (probably) for Berahino- in reality, we've only paid £20m- but to the fans it will seem like they got their valuation.
Not quite. In your example above WBA receive £20million cash plus a player who cost us £8m last year in exchange for Berahino.

We are selling one player at a loss, which obviously doesn't increase the tax bill, really. Then we are buying one player for quite a large sum of money, which will reduce our profit and thus lead not increase the tax bill.

Exactly. One make make up some sweet reasoning as much as one wants, but at the end of the day, we will pay a substantial amount for Berahino. And adding a player on top of it in no way reduces the overall value of the fee.

Do West Brom have to announce the fee of transfers? I wonder if they will announce Fazio as a bargain £5m and the sale of Berahino as undisclosed.

I've got a feeling they might do it the other way round. Undisclosed for Fazio and high fee for Berahino, that way they could potentially pay us above market value for Fazio on the quiet and show they've got a fee they couldn't refuse for Berahino.

Oh Jesus I didn't realize I was coming in to math class this morning!

Good news from Paul. Don't suspect that it gets done today if WBA are announcing Fazio. Probably Monday or Tuesday then. So 48 hrs...from Sunday.

Pritchard signs new 4 yr deal. Great news but I got all excited when I saw the 'we are delighted to announce' line from Spurs Twitter. Was sure it was gonna be about Berahino

All fees quoted for players in press (and also by selling clubs) tend to be max if x targets met. Therefore Fazio for 8m might actually be way off as I suspect Soldado for 26m was. Levy's no mug as our accounts show so not worth guessing at losses. We never declare our transfer fees since we left stock exchange

Delighted it's 4 and not 3 as I feared he might insist upon. Really looking forward to him trying to make himself a place in the team.

You don't pay taxes on Losses (Fazio). On the contrary you get a tax credit!
