Physical presence. Poch knows him. He wants to come to us. If true then this is a good deal. One of the main men at a team that finished 6th in the Prem - I'm all for this.

Can not fathom for the very life of me why people are unhappy with this if true ?

Perfect competition for dier and great to be able to bring on to shut down games when in a leading position ,prem experienced, already knows our managers philosophy so less difficult to integrate big strong lad, tough ,good attitude, hard grafter so whats not to like ?

Is it because he is not nabil ?
If he is signing feckin good job spurs well done and if its under 15 mill even better.

Happy with this one if it happens. Good supplement to Dier and Dembele.

And for all of those whining about him being a red card waiting to happen; so is Dier. It was just divine intervention that saved him getting sent off against both Arsenal and Chelsea.

Him and Embolo, please
I'll leave this up as an example of how what we call 'wishlisting' can derail the thread.

Some herbert will reply saying they would also like him, another will just have to tell the world how crap he is and we're off and running. Then i'll lose the plot and threaten everyone with all sorts of disasters, including a two hour session doing the horizontal hokey cokey with everyone's mums (even though they do actually regularly invite me over) and go on a demented ranting spree followed by two days sulking in the corner.

It is at that point you'll feel a severe itch on the very outer extremities of your ringpiece, that'll be the thread banstick stopping you from ever doing it again.

Wanyama has incredible stamina and gives 100% every time, not surprised Pochettino wants him. He needs to be less aggresive sometimes and his passing isn't very good but he will do a job at DM.

Well it's not a bad signing tbh, he can partner with Dier / Dembele / Alli/ Bentelab. I will be more confident with him slotting in that DMC position giving the middle some power and presence.

If he comes, Caroll will leave I presume.

Presumably this is a good time to capitalise on the managerial uncertainty at Southampton.

Personally I think he is a good buy. Improves a weak position. Premier league experience, played under our manager and with Toby A. 24 years old and a decent price when everyone else will be spending silly money.

semi agree. although from what we've seen with the transformation of Walker et al. I believe a 24 Wanyama could improve to become a decent combatant with Dier. Also depending on price could turn out to be positive bit of business
I think he'll be useful against physical Premier league sides, particularly when we're coming off the back of a CL Wednesday/ weekend sequence. He's not eloquent, but he doesn't need to be. He's as strong as an ox, clearly buys into Poch's way of doing things and will give us a real physical presence when needed. I think he might surprise a few people and he was a better player under Poch than he was the season just gone. A pragmatic, non-glamourous but necessary signing.

Totally agree, there is a reason that Poch appears to have gone in for him every summer window since he joined us and like you I think the posters who are underwhelmed by him will be pleasantly surprised by him.

I think our record of dropping points from winning positions speaks for itself. There's clearly something not right there and I think Wanyama would be a good signing - especially if he can help us to close games out. He can play the exact same role as Dier which would enable us to keep with the system so I really don't see a problem if it comes off.

Far be it for me to point out that Wanayama was the midfield mainstay for a team that's been second in the form guide for 2016 so far...

He's a beast, still young enough to drastically improve and I'd imagine he'll be comparatively cheap.

Southampton are going to love us.

well if it happens at least we don't have to hold our breathe every time Dier goes on a streak of games where he has to avoid getting a 5th yellow card, because we don't have a CDM insight of covering for him
