Not so, we could be in for them and many more, but how many of those will the players want to come to us, and the club are willing to complete will reduce that list dramatically IMO

What I mean is that we're not aiming to bring in that many players at that price.

For us to sanction spending of more than about 50m I suspect we'd have to sell, and there isn't a huge amount of money to be made from the players that we don't want.

So if we're looking at spending much more than that...I think it could only mean one of two things:

1. We're selling Bale; or
2. Lewis and Levy have been hitting the crack pipe and hitting it hard.

Just the press loving it. They just assume we are spending the Bale money.

A&C said loads of salt for the Sanchez ITK.

If we were to sell our best player to United again it would be one of the most gut wrenching days in our history.

No way can I see that happening after what's been said by AVB etc.

I look at the apparent spending spree as us spending the bale money in advance. If we spend big and get at least top 4 we get our money back from CL, If we fail miserably, Bale will go and we'll get our money back.

Optimistic. If we're in for Soldado, Sanchez, Song and McCarthy, having already signed Chadli and Paulinho that would be a likely expenditure of 85m or more.

That would be way outside our normal spending levels and I just don't see it happening.

Soldado, Paulinho and Chadli would be a pretty good window for me.

I see those differently to you. I see them as alternatives, not necessarily buying all of them. The problem is we can't just aim for 4th, we have seen what has happened the last two years, we have to aim higher hence the need to upgrade considerably. We can't afford to lose out on better quality players and are sounding out more than one player for the positions to be filled. :cautious:

Agree. Its about having quality irons in the fire so to speak.

Its my 30th birthday today !
Would very much like it if we could sign Soldardo and maybe a little more info on Alexis... They would be quite welcome presents. I hope the football gods are listening.

There is no Bernard ITK so can people keep it in the Bernard thread. Posting in here saying you want Bernard ITK doesn't help.

IF and I say IF we are in for Soldado Sanchez Song McCarthy and apparently more then I'd suggest our target this season is not to make top four.
Good, it shouldn't be... finishing top 4 should be the by product of aiming to win the league. We have been 3rd, threatening higher for 2-3 seasons now and we drop off. The potential is there. Add the right ingredients and start pushing. You cannot breed a culture within the club that top 4 is enough, you have to aim higher.

Since we have Paulinho in already, I fail to see us signing both Song AND McCarthy. I'm actually surprised we're in for either, since we also have Sandro, Dembele and Holtby, plus Sigurdsson and Carroll. That's a lot of options for CM without adding McCarthy and Song, fees wages etc.
Regarding last nights ITK, if we are even in for Soldado and Sanchez, I would be happy, but also expect to see outgoings. Ade, Defoe and Soldado would struggle to get the desired gametime, and all three are senior enough they wouldn't be happy with 3rd choice. Also, Sanchez, Chadli, Bale and Townsend and Lennon, 4 I could understand, not 5 though.

Additional reports say our Technical Director Franco Baldini and Alberto Toldra, the players agent, (pictured meeting right) agreed a wage of £3 million (€3.5m) a year which equates to £57,789 a week. There will of course be bonuses to take the figure higher depending upon the club and his performances.

Spanish paper AS report today that Soldado 'will almost certainly be a Tottenham player as of Tuesday' with a deal 'on the point of being finalised.'

Pretty good? Very good I'd say, If we got all those players, (I don't think we will)then I think Lewis would have bitten the bullet and sanctioned an extra spend. I think AVB would be gutted if we sold Bale this season, I can't see it happening

new (not new info) ITK from POTL about Soldado

Franco personally handling this transfer, Daniel sanctioned club record bid to Valencia for Soldado. Lengthy talks yesterday with the club, two agents and Franco. After missing out on Villa which we had put an incredible amount of time and work into, this is the player that has been asked for by Andre and his team. Positive that this can be completed, we have spoken with the player but will be down to Valencia and their directors today. Any press leaks are from their end.

Would not be surprised if many a club see this as the time NOT to do business with Man United. Never have they been so vulnerable.

Anyway, not for the ITK thread... As for the other cryptic, can't see why we would want Song, Sanchez yes but I agree that it would probably be a little far fetched at present, though assuming we have money for Bernard, then maybe we could do a deal.

Still think AVB wants another striker on top of Soldado though, again, making the assumption that 1 of our current duo are offski.

Some info from marcspurs on SO, albeit mostly known:

Soldado deal (from what I hear, take with a pinch of salt if you wish), is about £17m/£18m initial payment, with another £4m in add-ons... total around £22m (€26m)

AS for the he 28 already, he was 28 about 6 weeks ago, not like he is going to be 29 anytime soon...

Strikers always fetch a premium and (IMHO) always better to buy an experienced one with a track record...

Soldado has a pretty good record in Spain, CL experience, International experience and is technically very good...

Why not? We already have Paulinho, Chadli is agreed and with the squad in Hong Kong and reports are saying that its quite likely that we will agree something with Valencia today for Soldado! Thats quite likely to me though i don't want to count our chickens just yet after the stuff in the media about Villa!

I agree I don't believe that we are interested in another midfield player or wide player. If we sign Soldado I can only see us looking at a LB and at a push a CB.

The only other signing I could envisage then would be to replace an outgoing, for example if Ade or JD went then you could see a new forward.

But I fully expect a Soldado and a LB to be it.

If Sanchez does happen, I can see it only on a loan+buy.
Simply cannot see how we will buy a Barca player who they bought for €26million + 11m addons .

Sanchez is primarily a right wing forward. Unless Lennon leaves, I cannot see this happening.

I agree. I agree so much that just pressing 'agree' doesn't do it justice.

I hope this isn't the case. It could explain why we're willing to pay nearly €30m for a 28 yr old but hopefully it's just we're trying to build a title winning side.

I really can't see Bale getting sold this window, no way. if these signings come off Levy and Lewis are giving AVB the backing to push for a title push. People are forgetting that the TV money this year has nearly doubled for the clubs and getting into the CL revenue stream from CL football will be massive. That combined with the new HP sponsership seems to have given us a bigger income. Also although not renouned for HUGE bankrolling Lewis isn't a poor man, maybe he is fed up watching the other teams owners pour money into their clubs and has though now with the change in management at the top clubs this is an oppertunity.

What ever happens if Bale has a similar season to last season, which I dont see why not, he will still be worth the reported £80M that was offered by Real, if this season does go all tits up Bale can simply be sold to the higest bidder next summer and the club will still be in the green. Having said that I have the upmost faith we will have our best season this season.
