If as Herc suggests Grealish and Zaha are the 2 HGs, then the CM is surely international - someone like nDombele, perhaps.

I'm referring to the ITK about 2 HGs and 1 international.

So, If Zaha doesn;t happen, and we bring in an international WF instead, then the CM position would have to be a HG player - like Lewis Cook.

(Maybe this is causing the delay on the third name.)

don't get me wrong, if we've got 65m to spend on a player to improve us zaha wouldn't be number 1 on my list, but he's obviously first on our managers list, and that's what's important

Depends on your definition I guess - if we're thinking wide players I'd put Mane, Salah, Firmino, Sterling, Sane, Bernardo Silva, Mahrez, Hazard, Son, Sanchez, possibly Martial. Splitting hairs though really, he's still a good player, would be very happy with him.

Not the right place to go into any of that talk, but consider how many of those players would have looked as good in the Palace team.

If we sign him, I wouldn't be surprised to see him step up a level ahead of those. It's harder to be marked by two or three men when you're not the only threat in the team.

After all the hemming and hawwing, I've concluded that regardless of how the next days go, if the window closes and Pochettino is happy, this is a good window. If he is not happy, this is a bad window.

Based on what we've seen over time and confirmed by this recent ITK, signing Zaha goes a long way to making Poch happy, and thus, moves the needle toward this being a good window. I personally think it would be a brilliant signing that suits many needs including HG, but I guess I'm half blind based on the negative response some are giving here to the prospect of signing Zaha. I thought he was simply going to be unavailable this window, but I'd take him over Martial given our CL needs.

Also the idea of paying Palace rankles me far less than paying Man United.

This would tie into what an ITK said about one deal effecting the other and the knock on effect it would have to other targets lined up etc

Everyone knows we tried before. But I've seen or heard nothing to suggest Levy is going to spend £65m on him (£23m more than our previous record signing).

Unfortunately last time we tried to deal with Palace we fucked up the deal by offering Zaha very low wages (prem wages). Which is why Zaha immediately signed a new deal at Palace. No excuses this time around. DL pays the money and we get the player or holds back for a cheaper deal and pisses off Poch. Unless there’s another player Poch would prefer over Zaha which I doubt very much.

65 mil according to HY is a figure high enough that I find it hard to believe Levy would pay. They have tried to get him in past windows as well I believe and with the prices now being much higher than they were for Zaha a year or so ago, I just can’t see Levy stomaching paying up for him when they could have had him cheaper a year ago.

Cheers Breezer. All I know is the Palace fans I know (including my old man) absolutely idolise the guy and the only reason they're coming to terms with him leaving is the possibility of building their squad with the big bucks.

Worry about his injuries, but there's a hell of a player there that has more gears and years ahead of him in the right team...

I probably started the window with Martial my number one target and I do think he will grow to be the better player but I think Zaha is the best fit for our needs right now.

I’m not a fan of Zaha but even I had to laugh at putting Sterling in the top 12 wide players, the bloke is all pace and nothing else, makes Zaha look like the love child of Pele and Einstein

People we’re saying the same last season about the price we paid for Sanchez.

The way transfer fees have escalated over the past year or so, I would’nt rule anything out.

We don’t need a marquee signing, we need quality in depth.

We’ve got the world’s best striker who’s also the World Cup golden boot winner. That’s as marquee as we need.

It will... but every club is also earning/receiving a lot more which is one of the main reasons why transfers costs have gone through the roof.
