You can look at the Toby stays scenario two ways in my eyes. 1. it is legit, he’s not getting what he wants elsewhere and has it good here. 2. It’s a bargaining position to show that it’s not a situation where he has to be sold.

My guess is the latter but who knows.

Was it revealed who the player was that @rebrab was talking about yesterday when he said keep an eye on the media links yesterday afternoon?

Well I guess this depends on whether the Manure bigwigs trust Mourinho enough or are going to overrule him. Either option is good for us, if they yield we get Martial, if they overrule him, Mourinho will probably have a typical 3rd year meltdown.

I've been thinking on Toby, even if we had to keep him and he couldn't agree a fee we probably would still get a decent January offer from somewhere. Arsenal did for Sanchez and that was with him being on a free rather than £25m in 6 months!

I think there is a high stakes poker game going on between Utd and Levy (no love loss there!) and neither side wants to concede. Obvious resolution seems to be the swap but neither side seems willing to concede an inch to the other.

Maybe Levy is willing to keep pushing Utd until late on knowing that if the swap never materialises he can try to shift him abroad (PSG?) after August 9th, chance selling him in Jan, or try and agree a new deal for Toby. It does worry me in terms of us coming out empty handed but if Martial is the top target then I can see why Levy is persisting. Hopefully Jose will speak sense to the Utd board and push the swap through.

That would be a disaster as they will then go balls deep to get Poch.

morning gents,

Let's keep the meltdown to ice-cap safe levels today.

Appreciate the ITK Trixy-Lad. Having a scan back across the previous ITK there were themes of
- no movement till after world cup
- big boys need to buy their new toys
- value in the back end as we have to juggle the 'war chest', which is there but not infinite.

Seems we have got our knickers in a twist over the last few days as the WC is over and a shiny signing didn't simply land on the door step. At the same time, and looking to the above ITK themes it's safe to say the balancing act is underway. Will the balancing work...who knows?

Was interesting to see the BBC gossip articles this morning noted that Martial can go for 50 (albeit overseas) and Pulsic is viewed around 60m. Annoyingly both are linked to "big boy" interest but we know we now keep our cards close(r) to our chest, and we've had other ITK saying "we think we are close, so do others).

While I am close to the panic station, I'm not there yet as the ITK themes seem to be vindicated, even if the "plan" isn't completely on track

Very calm and sensible.

I was curious as some itk can tend to want to lead you astray in terms of comparing possibilities based on the news, I think there was a more freeform transfer wishlist thread before? Is that still around or was it removed.

As I said in the Martial thread this morning, Toby being wanted by Utd gives us leverage over Martial IMO.

Martial has now been given green light to leave according to the papers but not to a prem club. However, if they still hold interest in Toby then it may just give us the leverage we need to swing a deal for Martial.

IMO it just makes far too much sense for us to not come to a mutually beneficial agreement. In American sports this is a straight up player trade without any fuss at all.

I'd rather we keep Toby because we don't seem close to getting a good enough replacement for him. Keep him and splash out on Zaha instead. Otherwise we will have a top quality centre back to replace in just 2 weeks.

Are we starting a guessing game where we name random footballers based on no ITK whatsoever?

I can see that ending beautifully for all involved.
No we are not it’s just the press talking about Kovacic yesterday and more today as said in the bit of itk. Ain’t seen any other that fits, you?
