I have a feeling that we are as close as ever to getting Scneiderlin. I just cannot see a CL club needing him to the tune of £20m+

Or he may be third or fourth on their list.....with the new TV deal everyone will be spending like crazy and 20m for the CL clubs won't be that much of an issue.

Hertyid on Fazio:

I don't believe Fazio is leaving this summer. Poch likes him.

I think we'll have a centre back pairing by committee situation this year in that there won't be a definitive 1st choice/2nd choice selection, we'll pick CBs for each game based on the perceived strengths of each of them compared to the perceived strengths of the opposition.

Think Jan will play most of the PL games, but his partner could change each week. So if you're playing long ball, lots of crosses Stoke, we'll go with Fazio, if we're playing a team with lots of pace upfront, we'll go with Dier etc.

This does of course rely on Fazio actually getting his head on the ball and not being out jumped by every opponent as he was at times last year. Hoping that after a season of bedding in and with a whole pre-season ahead, that a bit like Mertesacker in his 2nd season, Fazio could look very solid indeed if played in the right games... Hope so anyway

hertyid on yedlin speculation: I certainly havent heard that he's being sold. My only info was that other most established teammates thought he was sub-par technically.

Totally agree. If any of the current top four were interested in him he'd be long gone.

United have already stocked up with their priority signing in attack and i would guess are now looking to upgrade their back line whereas Brenda has spunked 30 million of the Sterling cash (yes his transfer has to be nailed on). Chel$ea are fixed and Arsenal won't be adding to the 42 million they spent on Dot Cotton anytime soon.

Aside from Europe where else would MS go, and who else in Europe outside a few clubs could afford him or actually need a player like him?

I think he's gonna be playing alongside Bentaleb at Old Trafford come the season opener?

I just had this question "hitting" my head. It has been said that MS would go rather go to a CL team. Many points to Arsenal or Man U as the more likelier teams that would go for MS. Why can't it be the likes of Monaco/Marseille/PSG? I know that these teams need to adhere to FFP or the owners need to sell, but as long as they can sell more players, then wouldn't the teams be ok? MS plays for France afterall, right? I do not know where he will go, whether its us or a CL team from BPL, I just want to share this possibility......replacements for the like of Kondogbia or Imbula?

Very unlikely:-

Marseille/Lyon would not be able to afford the fee or wages
Monaco just sold Kondogbia for a similar amount MS would cost, and are also having finance issues.
PSG may sell Rabiot because they are already flush with CM/DMs

Probable other destinations are pretty much Utd or Arse, which was why I was hopeful. Utd more likely to shop elsewhere and Arse just as likely to keep Coq/Flamini. They don't buy DMs often, especially at £20m+.

However even the above would have meant waiting a fair way into the window before he would join us.

You've answered your own question.

These clubs need to sell the players they have - and replace with cheaper players, not players costing £20m+ as MS is

What the heck is Baldini doing? Is he trying to make us appreciate Comolli?

Thanks for the answers guys. I just thought that MS might not be valued at £20m+ for a team outside BPL as he is not a HG player anymore in France. Remember we sold Modric to Madrid at a lower price than what Chelsea was willing to pay (and there were news that Man U willing to pay higher for Bale than Madrid). If now, Southampton see Spurs as a direct competitor, would they be unwilling to sell to us and rather sell lower to a foreign team? I also think that MS wage right now should be quite low, maybe lower than Kondogbia, Imbula or Rabiot?

I know the french teams need to adhere to FFP or their club in finance "trouble", that was why i said if they can sell more players to get MS? Would MS make Marseille a better/stronger team to challenge the French league or go further and win the Europa? I know the probability is very low for these clubs to buy MS, But the possibllity is still there right? No matter how small. Of coz i like to see MS at WHL.

Yedlin has always been a bit of a gamble.

A low risk one as it's good PR in the states and if he comes good he'll be great for marketing.

If Yedlin never makes it as a regular starting player with us it won't have been such good PR. We have already had some bad press in the States for Yedlin not featuring after he joined in January and it will only continue to get worse so long as he isn't getting regular game time.

trix with a little bit on MS: I still wouldn't be putting my money anywhere. Anything could happen regarding this one. There has been interest from lots of clubs so even if something is close a bid could come in from elsewhere to thwart it. FWIW I don't think he is anyone's first choice(except us) but an accepted bid from one club could force others to break cover.

If he's not good enough, he's not good enough. Can't just play him to appease a few fans on the other side of the world.

Completely agree. Was just making the point recruiting an American isn't automatically good PR.

What an odd bit of ITK this is.

He's no Iniesta and he's not a footballing genius but technically he seems no worse than the likes of Walker, Fazio, Davies, Rose etc
