I'm not particularly sold on Ings, but there's no denying he'd likely get a good amount of minutes here as first change for Kane or maybe an alternative to Chadli. gotta be more appealing than landing at Liverpool with no idea how you'll figure. Even last year Lambert signed with hope of game-time then they signed Balotelli on top, this year Origi, maybe Benteke Sturridge with a load of AMs that he uses often as a forward, how's he gonna play?

Making a 12m bid makes no sense at all when a player is out of contract in 1 week. If we want Ings we need to pay HIM more cash

But he's under 23, so different rules apply.

And it's 5 weeks - all football contracts run till 30 June.

At worse this bid just makes him much more expensive for someone else (as they will need to match our bid now)

Should just offer Ings the £6m and pay £6m to Burnley. As soon as he's signed he'd be worth more than £12m.
Although I would prefer to go for Austin.

Hmmmm are you sure about that? It leaves it so open for abuse eg just to stop anyone getting Ings we could bid £50 m for him then when that's accepted offer him 50 p a week which he'll turn down , then he's left in no man's land as anyone who wants him would have to pay £50 m. It'd be so easy to stop your rivals getting players

If we were really smart we would make Burnley include the people who identify their strikers in any deal we pitch for Ings....

Burnley had Jay Rodriguez and sold him to Soton.....Replaced Rodriguez with Austin, sold Austin to QPR.....replaced Austin with Ings....

If we are paying money for someone who will be available on a free in a week then i would be trying to get the people who identified Charlie Austin when he was at Swindon and Ings when he was at Bournemouth as players who could be successful strikers as they seem to know what they are doing....

The system is designed to punish big clubs trying to take young players from small clubs, without paying a fair price for them.

Burnley can now go to their tribunal with our £12m fax and that's the marker for a fair price for Ings.

At worse we've just Levy'd Liverpool out of an extra £7m

No the rules for the price from a tribunal are black and white. You get a certain amount for how long they've been with you, what level etc... You can work it out with a calculator (although it is complex) any bids will have nothing to do with the price.

And any lawyer worth his salt would shoot that £12M value down as Ings' contract would be up so his market value wouldn't be £12M and use precedents as evidence. Anyway we should stop this discussion as it's not what this thread is for

JJetset in Ings thread just now

Liverpool still red hot favourites
I don't like to over-analyse, but I think the 'still' indicates that JJ is acknowledging the fact that there has been some sort of development (a bid from us), which means that it's not as certain as before...but it's still far more likely he will go to Liverpool.

Or still hot favourites even with the bollocks on Sky Sports?

Well I definitely think something has happened, because it's gone from Ings definitely going to Liverpool, to them 'only' being strong favourites.

Just playing devils advocate. I wouldn't analyse his words too much just take the basic message.

Has it ever been "definitely"? I think people are over-analysing the two statements by JJ, they mean the same thing IMO, just worded differently. Doubt anything has changed.

Well, JJ said he 'is going elsewhere' and 'is' sounds pretty definite to me.

I did say i was over-analysing TBF :D

Trippier - makes sense, bonzo was awful when he came back from injury & needs competition. Ings, not fussed really, would prefer to go all out for Benteke, throw in Ade, Chiriches or a dele alli loan to sweeten deal. Pritchard has to be given a chance next season surely, cup games, europa dopa & subs bench for league games ?

If Ings has got a formal deal in place, it has to be to Sociadad or elsewhere abroad.

He's not allowed to talk to other English clubs until 1 July, unless Burnley agree a fee with them first.
