If I may be obtuse for a moment people ask why would Sevilla turn down millions of pounds for a player who can sign a pre contract in five months and walk for a free at the end of the season However, would I be out of order to ask why pay millions of pounds for this player? why not wait and get him on a free at the end ofthe season?

I see your point. However, holding on to 4th is absolutely vital and Fab is the only realistic top class striker we can get. That is why I reckon the negs have been going on for so long...

I think because we've identified a striker as the position we need to improve on and that needs to happen now for us to repeat our top 4 finish. If Fabiano is seen as the correct option it would be a big risk to wait for a year to get him.

To further my previous point, the neg on this is tricky - we know that Sev are going to want to sell, or he'll go for a free and they badly need the money. On the flip side, they know that we need him to keep 4th, so it's a batlle of wits between super Levy and a ****.

the thing is that by the end of the season..some other team might snap him up..for example teams that are not as good, yet more reputable..see juventus..they are probably thinking of the same thing..waiting for the same oppotunity..for us we do not have the luxury to wait. we are newbies in the CL and our only chance is now..we are just playing the waiting game with sevilla..if we hold till the final day of transfer..they will defintely lose out.. its just a game of monopoly.

Seeling Keane for so little would be a disgrace. OK, so he has struggled the past few seasons, but he has shown in the past just how skiolled he can be, To not make a decent retrun on him would me very dissapointed.

That said, I can't see DL accepting such a small sum unless he's forced to clear him off the wage bill before the "Klinsmann" comes in.

I think we should look for future brazilian strikers as well. Brazil is short of players like ronaldo recently and if we can scout some promising brazilian forwards, it would only be good for the future

I think it's to get in a good striker (and quasi-marquee signing) now, because in the summer bigger clubs would be a position to offer more to get him on a free, a bit like Man City buying De Jong a year and a half ago for £18M? when he had six months left on his contract.

However, given that Fabiano's age, being cup-tied and I'd say not quite being world-class, does he warrant the money and focus we're keen to apply for him? Not sure.

fabiano is definitely not world class..but neither are we..world class teams get world class strikers, unless we discover gems by ourselves..even so, we wont be able to hang on to them (see berba)..for us to be able to have a striker of fabiano's calibre would be good enough imo..

c'mon!!! just sign him up already!! keane out , get fabiano in and huntelaar on loan. sell pav during jan and settle for fabiano, defoe, crouch and KJH
fabiano defoe for EPL home & away
crouch defoe for CL home
crouch for CL away
Crouch / KJH for FA/CARLING cup

I'm in a pickle .. fab for Keane, superb .. i'd love KJH in but i wouldnt want Pav to go.

I think, even though he's hero atm, that Crouch is the worst of Pav/Defoe/Crouch where the league comes in.. BUT .. before young boys i was undecided wether Crouch or Defoe was more use to us and how we play. its hard because they both are up there on different mirrits..

i guess, at the end of the day, Pav will be the one to make way because Harry rates him the least .. never understood why though, not completely. I really believe that Pav would score tons given the oppertunity to get a full season under his belt.. i'll be sad to see him go.

AdiePF, I think im misunderstanding your latest ITK as no1 else seems to have picked up on it.

But from my understanding of that post, doesnt it suggest your getting 4th hand information, as you said (his source) and then (the source) which suggests, you have a source, that has a source, that has a source.

p.s in typing that I spelt source ..sauce 4 times - this is what SC does to you

indeed fella...by 3rd hand i mean its going through 3 people to get to me...

i beleive you lot are receiving 4th hand info!! ha....am i right:grin:

How many strikers in the world really are 'World Class'?

I would say that Berbatov isn't seen as world class but he was massively important for us. I think that's the level Fabiano is at and as you say the level we can realistically be looking at.

Crikey, shall we just agree that he is an affordable upgrade...

Is he not fast approaching brazil's all time goal record? That says to me he is world class

That's why we have a tie in with Internacional, so we have a pick of the best future Brazilian players

Agreed. His cameo against Young Boys in the first leg alone shows that he's worth more than 6m. Didn't Wolves sign Steven Fletcher for that sort of amount? Surely Keane is worth about twice that.

Who? Never heard of the bloke.

If I was Keane though I'd bide my time I think there would be a number of clubs interested at that kind of fee.
