How is it that football clubs are able to hold players to contact? Does this power apply to any other profession?

Galley slaves Cotton picking some mines used to do it but think a lot of them where prisoners so don't really count
Chain gangs.
Can't think of any more it's getting late :)

They are footballers I can't feel sorry for somebody that earns more than I did all week in the time it took them to have a dump they sign the contracts if they are held to them tough shit basically :)

The irony lies in the 14th wealthiest club in the world, with one striker on the books, who is likely to play, trying to buy from a club that has 5. And two of them were signed recently.
I personally was gutted to miss out on Rondon and Lambert.

Too right. We are a joke. I am really worried now. Same old same old trying to be too clever and it is coming back to bite BIG time. Where is the DM Poch so obliviously needs. I bet Mitchell is wondering why he joined .

Hello and welcome.

Wow, that was a stunning start, 38 neg reps 17 Possi reps on your first ever post on SC. quite an entry.

The irony of the 'obliviously' typo here is delicious

Right, I'm stewed on wine and off to bed. If anything exciting happens tonight, put it in the post and address the envelope to: Twat, Cornwall.
That normally gets to me

I think it was straight from our press office personally.
It could easily have been though no insinuation of a "club source" within the article. Well written and argued though, which is basically what I've been saying all eve. This isnt over.

Someone mentioned Son being good for getting a Korean sponsor... Leverkusen are currently sponsored by LG - have they considered the impact of selling him?! Would the sponsor follow the player?

As to Berahino - this is now in the vinegar strokes: WBA have said that they will not sell him because he is vital to their team and the deal was structured with lots of add ons and staged payments. Sorry? Is he not for sale because he is a vital player (despite signing two new strikers) or because the cash ain't right?!

I feel that a magical deal will be done and WBA will say they played hardball and got what they wanted and the final sum will not be a million miles from what is on the table now.

PS - Llorente has gone to Sevilla - in case that was the Rabiot you were expecting to be pulled from the hat.

No one needs to sell. No one.
You don't get a better deal the later you leave it.
Teams are less likely to sell as they cannot get replacements.
It reeks of desperation.
We always do it.
You waste the first 5 games of the season without the team you want/need for the season.

Strange man

Strange? hmm ok.
The rant is a result of the frustration brought on by the continuing failure of our transfer policy. Stranger is the delusion of some people who can't see how damaging the way we conduct our affairs is to the clubs reputation and the team on the pitch. I love a transfer, bit of gossip and ITK but i'd rather that all happened a few weeks ago before the season starts. The logic in waiting as we always do is flawed but yet we, being Tottenham never seem to learn.

Lolz Bob, you should post more often and change your username to suit your mood.

On a side note, you're clearly not Businessman Bob because you don't really know what you're talking about when it comes to making a deal happen

Rubbish. If that is the case then why does the bulk of all transfer activity take place towards the end of the window?
Bulk...? Don't know how you get to those numbers. But It's effectively a free for all at the supermarket skid bin selling dented cans of beans for 20p and that pretty much sums up most of our dealings... all the pikies grabbing for bargains. Not thats what we needed, just what was on sale... Genius
