No it was Real Sociedad.

Only Basques or players with Basque heritage (e.g. grandparents) can play for Bilbao.[

The traditional Basque area straddles both Spain and France.:)

Have just seen AVB has been chatting about Willian and Damaio - this window is going to be a collection of our greatest transfer misses, isn't it?

aint damio about 46 now!!..it seems we've been looking him in every window since 1988 ffs
Levy began negotiating the night his mum fell pregnant. He thought he had him tied up on a pre fetus contract but they wangled out of it due to the dutch cap clause.

Enough of Damiao already. We have a better chance at signing Scott Baio

The one year where we all take no notice of Damiao is probably the one year we finally nail the barsteward!

I still think we'll sign Damiao. Eventually. He hasn't been as prolific as last year and he'll want a move before his stock falls. He is the perfect match for us.

Some quotes from AVB here on our interest in Willian and Damiao: http://www.clubcall.com/tottenham-hotspur/willian-and-damiao-interest-confirmed-1524210.html

"We made contact with Willian and he was one of the players who we were interested in," Villas-Boas confirmed. "I like his work, but we had a point where we had to stop?we couldn't meet his valuation. When it's like that, it's difficult, so we left the negotiation.
"Shakhtar are a difficult club to negotiate with. They know the value of Willian, they don't need money, they don't need help. They can keep hold of their players."
Spurs' interest in Damiao has been long rumoured but Villas-Boas confirmed it and revealed he had been very impressed with his performances at London 2012 last summer.
"Leandro had a great Olympics. There are many interesting players, there are many here also?we are satisfied. But, obviously we will follow the best players and youngsters and Leandro fits this profile.
"We are watching his progression. After the Olympics he had injuries and didn't play a lot. If he is within our limits, he is always on our list."

Don't know why I read these quotes. Always the same nothing. We like him but we can't get him.

Why does the club spend so much time looking at players that are obviously outside our financial means. Either change the structure of your player budget or target a different player. ffs!
Do they think any of us are still buying this BS?

Wonder why they'd think that? :|

At least we now know Damiao is still a target under AVB.

What we know is that Damiao currently is valued over 20m so there is no chance of us signing him.

Luuk De Jong. If a story came out about us chasing him for 15m then I would maybe buy in and take an interest.

i think the two players that can really fit into our team right away is WS and JM. of course isco or pjanic are gonna do fine, but JM and WS has huge upsides. for JM , hes a midfield engine, great techniques and eye for a pass. knows what avb wants. on the other hand WS is a world class player, has goals and passes in him, shirt sales and merchardises would probably have a huge increase. but what WS has that JM doesnt is pulling power. imagine telling llorente that WS has just signed for us. suddenly it makes us a whole lot more attractive isnt it?

I don't think Damiao would cost 20m. Maybe 14-16. Brazil's economy is booming right now though so there are probably better bargains to be had in the Spanish League. Luuk De Jong is also a player I like but he only joined Borussia in the summer.

That ITK from Newcastle is the most believable ITK I've read for sometime. It doesn't fill me with confidence though if we are expected to reap back our transfer funds through champions league revenue. That means there will be little if any transfer funds available in the summer. Lack of investment in the squad is what cost us from getting a CL spot last time we were in it, looks like the same could happen again.
