Going by the specificity of his comment, it may be inferred that the striker would be 23. Why would he say under 24 then? Why not just say young? Maybe a clue.

Not necessarily. When Gards was asked if interest in the 'new' striker meant Berahino definitely not happening, he said

"it's a shame if it doesn't happen!!"

and when another poster said "Having zero inside knowledge, I still think we'll get Saido", Gards replied,

"I would love it! Personally he would be the best outcome!"

So maybe the deal is not completely dead.

You gotta just love it. Regardless of anything else nothing stirs the blood like the last days of a spurs transfer window. Am loving the fact that the cm/dm could be real quality as it would transform us.

Sorry. I misunderstood but I don't think it's necessarily dead. We would always have had contingency plans in the event it doesn't happen.

Strikers under 24 that are off the top of my head we haven't been linked with that are at least "pretty good":

- Icardi
- Zaza
- Milik
- Lassoga
- Embolo

Find this hard to believe. Not that there is a forward that we have not been linked to, but that it would be hard to do. At this stage talks must have been ongoing and clearly there would have to be mutual interest for us to be looking at him now. I still personally believe Bera will be ours. Just gonna have to wait and see!

I think we're in a position to take a punt on any young prospect now or just get in an experienced guy to lead the line as cover. I'm fairly relaxed and don't see it needing to be a big money signing or a 'name'. Kane, 2nd choice, then Chadli, N'Jie and maybe Son could fill in the central role in my opinion if needs be. As long as its worked on in training and they start a game it's hardly a disaster, just don't pitch them in out of the blue for games like Stoke for the last 20 mins when we are under the cosh and expect it to be ok...
