But it's fairly moot at this point. When a hot property player signs an extension, it is a commitment for the year. It's very rare that any player, let alone one of Bale's stature, to sign and then move on. Not saying that it hasn't happened, but that extension puts an end to all speculation for one year.

I agree, and that's what Journo said. Alba goes to Barca, Bale stays and Modric to Madrid. Just thought it was worth pointing out as it's been said a few times that he doesn't get much right and he's already got 2 out of 3 on this one.

Reading some of his interviews, Caulker strikes me as another O'Hara - i.e. not particularly fussed what club he is at, so long as he's playing. I think with the much discussed 'high line' of defending, Caulker would be the immediate replacement for Vertonghen and Kaboul. As much as I like Dawson as a bloke, I reckon he'll soon be surplus to requirements.

I think Dawson could well be the odd one out as well - he was a cart horse at the best of times but he is coming off another serious injury so he won't be any quicker. And unlike Ledders, I don't think he has the defensive instincts or reads it well enough to compensate, at the very top level at least. The ITK on gallas going, coupled with the lack of Caulker talk since Rodgers went to 'pool suggest Caulks is going to feature this season

Verts, Kaboul, King & Caulker would be my base of centre backs. Daws is a top bloke and we all love his heart and effort, but he might be a bit exposed.

put caulker out on loan again. good experience for lad so so young. people saying he should stay and fight for place get real, he would be lucky to get 3 or 4 games in the season if everyone fit... we are also signing theat forest lad, lascelles, arent we but he is going to be loaned back apparently,

if gallas is to go then i would buy another center half besides vertongthen and a real game center half is that portugal lad bruno alves. had a great Euro's and very strong.

kaboul , dawson, vertongthen and bruno alves!!! now thats a proper strong 4 some.

or you might see a raul abiol from madrid maybe come to spurs as part of modric deal who knows?

Albiol is far too slow to be playing the high line.

Wasn't Alves bought for £20m by Zenit? they won't sell him cheaply. Vertonghen, Caulker, Kaboul and Dawson would be enough in my opinion. (if we got Fryers and Lascelles they can cover that position)

we have enough pace in walker and kaboul to compensate for anyone getting through. id be more concernced with ekotto;s positioning than getting exposed high up which is been overplayed on here to be brutally honest.

Re - recent ITK on Gylfi, is this defo done? Liverpool fan i know is pretty confident he's going there now, dunno what he's heard but its unnerved me a bit cos i don't think he's ITK. I'd love Bejam at Spurs, rated him since his Reading days, don't want him to go Bindippers!

I would think if Gallas is done and there won't be a move by Swansea for Caulker (and I doubt we would deal with Pool) then this is a pretty good sign that AVB might be thinking to give Caulker a chance. He showed himself to be capable of the kind of attack from the back, defend high style that AVB would want (if he is ultimately who is coming) so that loan might have been the perfect audition.

So if we get Bare Eel. Then he, Kaboul, Caulker and Bassong might well be our four center halves next year, which is weird because of our injury issue we usually need 6 (but of these guys only Kaboul really has an injury record as far as I can tell). I don't know what will happen with King, but if King stays, I would think that Bass might suffer more than Caulker. But might not suffer at all, because with King, we would probably want 5 cb's. And I agree that Bassong might get another chance. I know many have lost faith in him, but he was a good defender when we made the UCL. Maybe there is a chance we can coax that out of him again with a new regime. We certainly haven't heard of any other CB links (although that might have to do with the Nelsen, Gallas, King situation)

And I liked Anthony Gardener. Not the greatest defender, but I liked him.

All the right noises from loads of sources now.
And lots of crying Liverpudlians.

I'm confident.

Seen some of the snouts comments in recent days, and some moaning liverpudlians too! So i too was confident, but a scouse lad i know said Sigurdsson has had more talks with Liverpool, was worried if they matched our offer that the Rodgers factor would see him sign for them. Was wondering if Akqa, JJ, POTL etc know how far down the line we are with this deal and whether these 'talks' with Pool are bull or legit/if the goalposts have moved

Might be coming from an Icelandic poster on RAWK who has been posting this evening saying Sig has snubbed us for them. Hasn't confirmed a source or anything just "he knows."

I have to agree with others that he might not have a place as a Terry style defender on an AVB side. I love Dawson, but I could see him being the first to go. Any other coach, I don't even question if he stays.

Ben Smith was saying earlier that he doubted Liverpool would be upping their offer...

Perhaps you should have a wee read through this before deciding to spunk a huge amount of money on another CB...
