So all the talk is about M.S does that mean the trail on Rodriquez has gone cold? Or was it all just paper nonsense?.

I expect, if we do sign MS, that the figure released will be much higher than what is actually paid.

The only thing the statement from the chairman seemed to do was upset MS and annoy the fans further as they now know they have an unhappy player on their books. It's an unwinnable situation for Southampton as MS either leaves or stays with a bad attitude. Southampton will now have to accept a lower fee (Especially if a transfer request is submitted) but will probably report a higher fee including add-ons and possibly players just so they look like the good guys in the deal.

something along the lines of

"Oh, MS submitted a transfer request so we had no choice but to sell him. But we got top dollar" (Pretty similar to what the chairman said on talksport yesterday about all the other deals)

I seem to recall Modric, Bale and Berba going for high prices in similar situations....

I find the released transfer figures a bit of a nonsense generally, very difficult to tell what has actually been paid and what gets clouded by clauses that will never happen. For example, we never paid 26m for soldado, nor did we pay 16m for bent. Those we actually know, others are complete guesswork.

I expect we will do our usual undisclosed fee for MS, let the papers run with the higher figure, no real harm it will add value if we sell in the future and saints save face.

Kompany started at city as DM too, then got shifted back. I think it was a valid point.

Heck - it's a valid point regardless. The question wasn't specific to converting once in the PL.

Vincent Kompany, was a
Midfielder, now probably the best Center back in the league! :)
He may have played the odd game as a Midfielder but he was a CB at Anderlecht & Hamburger. He has always been a CB as his primary position.

It wasn't a valid point as it wasn't true. Kompany has always been a CB. He played 1/2 a season at Hamburger at DMC and 1 year at Man City, but has mostly played at CB.

£15/20/25 million. Whatever it is, get it done.

Worst scenario, well be selling him at a profit in a few time anyhow.

Ten million difference between your best and worst figures. But whatever the sale price is you just want us to pay it. Amazing. Glad you are not running a business it would be bust in days. What if he turns out to be average and can't be moved on for anything like what he cost ?
