I think we've just been Levy'd by Southampton. Will take some cash to free MS now me thinks.....27 mill was it?

I expect, if we do sign MS, that the figure released will be much higher than what is actually paid.

The only thing the statement from the chairman seemed to do was upset MS and annoy the fans further as they now know they have an unhappy player on their books. It's an unwinnable situation for Southampton as MS either leaves or stays with a bad attitude. Southampton will now have to accept a lower fee (Especially if a transfer request is submitted) but will probably report a higher fee including add-ons and possibly players just so they look like the good guys in the deal.

something along the lines of

"Oh, MS submitted a transfer request so we had no choice but to sell him. But we got top dollar" (Pretty similar to what the chairman said on talksport yesterday about all the other deals)

Totally agree. if we end up agreeing a deal they'll be presenting the high end of the deal and we'll be presenting the low end.

ITK on Southampton side suggests deal is close. ITK on our side suggets otherwise. I'm hoping selling club ITK is more accurate in general, in that there is an acceptance player is off.

I'll be neither ecstatic nor disappointed with either either signing going ahead or not. Rodriguez is perhaps more what we need. Someone like him, Remy or even Welbeck for the lwf/striker role. I think we need someone more in the Pjanic mould in CM personally.

Agree that out of the two of them, signing Rodriguez would please me more. I'm with you in that I think we need a true playmaker and creative spark in CM as Eriksen cannot be expected to always do it on his own.

Having said that, most Saints fans seem to think Schnerderlin was their most important player and it always helps when the manager gets players that he can depend on implement his way of playing. No way should we pay anything approaching £25m for him though. For that money we could make a serious bid for Lukaku.

Argh...really don't agree and hope we get him.

Far rather get Schneiderlin and keep our own forwards than blow a big chunk on Lukaku.

Loan moves would be the only acceptable outcome if Chiri and Holtby went to the Saints although in the current circumstances, i'd be loathe to really even loan out Vlad.

Does seem that the club have genuine concerns about Chiriches in the PL however. I'd probably rather he went on loan to a PL side than being sold outright as I think he has a lot of promise (especially if it helped sign MS and JR). Obviously this would be much less of a concern if there wasn't already a massive dearth of quality CBs on the market

Its going to be an interesting day I feel. I think we will release a story of a bid for Schneiderlin. Help his cause a little

The thing is, we don't want to end up in a situation where for their own purposes Southampton can paint us as the agent provocateur so that they can further appease fans when they do concede by saying the player was on strike, and Spurs were encouraging him, so we were forced to sell, but no way to them, Arsenal were much more respectful!

They can have Holtby.

Couple of typical 'busy' pre-season performances doesn't wash with me. We've much better players at the club already

Agree. I'm still not entirely sure Holtby is good enough but at least he has an eye for a pass. If we sold him we'd be left with only Eriksen (and possibly Lamela ) who can pass the damn ball more than 5 yards.

And Schneiderlin and Rodriguez...

Holtby seems like an ideal fit though. He is technically gifted, can play in multiple positions and works his fucking ass off. If Pochettino is going to implement his high pressing system, I would have to imagine that Holtby would be involved in it.

Don't think I need to explain why I deleted "ITK from Saints Web" posts.

it would be a dumb move to sell him when we finally have someone who is playing to Holtbys strength. Perfect to rotate with Eriksen.

Agreed. Holtby especially is more suited out of all our CM's to MoPo's style of high pressing lines. I am expecting big things from him this year!

Want to get involved in this discussion, but not the thread for it, anyone feel like making a Lewis Holtby thread?

Who wants to bet MS will sign a new contract?

Not a chance in hell.

To be seen to reward a player, even if it would protect the Club's interests, after a public attack would be the most laughable precedent ever set!

Nah. On top of all this he's been told by Dechamps to up club/competition level if he wants to be taken seriously for French team. They know he's going, he knows he's going, it's just when and where now.
