Another Ajax player... One of my sources who is Danish said this lad is highly rated in both Netherlands and Denmark, We look to be interested in him. When we went to look at Vertonghen for Ajax we also looked at him.. but if anything happens it will be after the Euro's as he want's to concentrate on that. Other top flight clubs are interested, but who know's only time will tell.

Posted in RO, about Christian Eriksen

If Vertonghen is up for it, maybe Eriksen is too?

SP the last thing I'd ever accuse you of is bandwagon jumping, you've been a lone voice arguing your corner too often for that, and I respect your opinion of Rodgers, I chose my words carefully and am not saying that Rodgers is not a fine manager merely that I remain to be convinced however I am ready to be convinced, I just want more time.
My main point was really the other way round, why do so many people feel a good season in the prem qualifies him as a good manager but six good years in the prem leaving the club in the best condition ever doesn't seem to qualify Curbishley as a good manager.

Fair enough.

For what it's worth, BTW, I think we would have been a good fit for Rodgers, I am not sure Liverpool will be. He will need time to get them in any shape at all, and I think the best they can hope for for the next few years is pushing themsleves back into CL contention; but their self-entitled fans seem to believe that they have a Gawd given right to a title challenge every season and judge their managers on that (ala Woy). And there are issues at the club that go beyond the manager, making it more and more difficult for them to actually get a title challenge.

As for Curbs, I really don't know. He did a great job with Charlton, and we all know what happened to them after he left. But, at the same time, it is a long time since he left them now, and his career has gone backwards since then. I would guess that iswhat most folk are thinking, Rodgers is current, Curbs ain't; Rodgers hasn't had that hiatus in his career (yet) that Curbs has had (for whatever reason). That's all...doesn't mean Curbs wasn't a very good manager at Charlton - and I can remember him being linked to us when he was on the up, and I think the feeling was very much more positive, then.

Doesn't Eriksen want to stay at Ajax? Think that's what I heard when he was rumoured with City last year.

Because its not just about looking at his record, a short one in the Prem as well - but more, specifically, the man himself and what he could bring and if those things would be a good fit. His ideas and methods right through out the Club, top to bottom. Not to mention the incredible work he's done off his own bat to better himself, those sort of things reveal a lot about a person and should never go unnoticed.

Maybe but Butland has never played for Birningham - only 12 matches in League 2 for Cheltenham. Next season League 1 loan, and following season Championship loan ? Potential yes....but could still either go downhill or become a goodgoalkeeper. asi of now over hyped based on his actual experience. Maybe worth a punt but its just that

Remond again, much hyped. Townsend who is a year older kept him on the bench when at loan at Birmingham so again maybe worth a punt but by no means a sure thing. BTW Redmond has just 24 appearances for Birmingham, Townsend has more Championship games plus went on loan in League 1 so has close to 100 professional games overall.

Think its a case of for many fans of bing taken in by the media who love hyping a youngster after just a handful of games
No, I hear ya. I was talking from a future asset standpoint. If Krul/Lloris/similar are the GK of the now and future, then a few promising youngsters could net nice transfer fees down the line if they can't crack the match day lineup.

Butland, if he pans out, likely won't be a upper-tier keeper for another 5-8 years. Shit, Friedel might be on display in an Egyptian museum around then. We definitely need someone experienced and with reasonable longevity starting in '13-'14.

I would imagine Eriksen has a few after him. Don't see any big clubs after him though, apart from maybe Utd.

Wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool had a pop now Rodgers is there. Not seen much of him but he looked great against Utd in the Europa.

More importantly, doesn't Eriksen play exactly the same role as Rafa?

He does, but who else do we have to cover that role if he is injured. Kranky looks to be leaving, Gio will be off, all the other strikers bar Kane cannot play there. I dont think he will join us, or as you said before, we have higher priorities, but we do need a creative/influential player to compete with VDV.

We're not going to pay £20m for a back-up for one of our two world-class players.

It would be more insane than Chelsea paying £50m for Torres when Drogba was still at his peak.

Didn't Eriksen say he doesn't want to play in the Premier League?

Agree so should we, but he played like soldier (untill he n many others got tired), even at the start of the season his game was just like last season, he was playmaker we all know and love(d). If we sell then only abroad, he will improve and enhance any of our PL competitors, he cannot be allowed that!

Sometimes you have to think about these about if he worked in your office. Modric this season has played the same as last season, which is a great credit to the professionalism of the guy. We all say "oh he has a contract he should play like that", but look at Fabregas towards the end at Arsenal, he did not want to be there anymore and it really showed. I definitely have respect for Luka for being professional this season.

Then I think well if I, at work, did a really good job and was a top performer...I would expect a promotion or more money. If somebody else came along and wanted me and wanted to pay me more money...why would I say no?

Its life, and football moves quickly. Ronaldinho went from undoubtedly the best in the world to an after-thought in a very short space of time. If someone will pay you £200k a week today, they might not pay that in a year!

So from a career point of view, I can understand Luka wanting to move. And if I was an employer and he was my employee, and he wanted to move on to a great side like Barca or Madrid...I'd be willing to let him. The contract he signed....maybe this isn't true...but at Zagreb he signed a 10 year contract so it would protect his value when he got a transfer. Maybe he signed the 6 year deal so it would protect his value for Spurs.

I do think that the problem has occurred that Levy would be ok with losing him abroad but he doesn't classify another English team as a "big move", where Luka did.

I hope Luka stays ... would not blame him for wanting to win titles and play in the CL, I would just hope he shows some professionalism in his conduct in the close season which he didn't last season. As much as I hate Berbatov and he refused to play...all summer long he never spoke about any transfer

It would be like replacing Sandro with Rooney. Modric and Eriksen couldn't be more different.

Really? I'd say they are pretty similar having watched Eriksen quite a bit. Eriksen has much more pace and drive going forward and has a much better shot than Modric.
