Surely a buyout clause is only good if the player in question wants to join? Surely he can't be forced to move there just because the clubs have agreed a fee.

All very odd.

Surely from a legal point of view, If Southampton havnt paid up the agreed price or Toby hasnt agreed terms and signed in time with them, then that makes the agreement void also?

If Toby does not wants to go SOTON, the contract between SOTON and AM will not be applied. This agreement can only apply when Toby agrees to transfer to SOTON.

If Toby prefers another club than this agreement is of no material impact or implication to AM or buying club. So whether AM pay that 1.5M is not important, this is how I interpret from what was mentioned.

Maybe the legal shenanigans are because scbc thought they had a full package agreed, fee plus player contract. This was possibly for scbc to exercise and now it might be toby not atletico who have reneged

It will be all down to the player at the end of the day - if he wants to sign for us all he has to do is turn down the contract offer from Southampton. The legal stuff imo only means Southampton have the opportunity to sign him first and for a certain amount (probably) which is all well and good as long as the guy wants to come - which he might. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Of course Toby might well have said initially to Southampton that he was coming, only to get a last minute call from us. S'oton will be pissed as they will view it all as having been agreed and cemented via an agreement only to have it potentially gotten around and Toby's head turned.

Doesn't mean they actually have a leg to stand on, but I could see why they might want to make a deal out of it, albeit potentially futile. Of course maybe they think they can drag it on long enough for us to lose interest or get more compensation.

Either way, should be interesting to see if Toby does indeed turn up tomorrow at the training ground.

All very well and good but we (certainly I) don't know what all the parties agreed. Knowing though that these things do take at least a little time, I'd be mightily surprised if he has not known about Spurs 'interest' for a long time - over a year? After all there was talk about him even before he moved to AM. I would therefore be again surprised if he had agreed to join Southampton in the meantime.

Anyway, I like the Goat's info and hope we'll hear more tomorrow. My only concern in all this is the amount of defenders we've bought vs the other key areas. JJ's info about the future though does still fill me with some confidence.

I think AM must give SOTON preference to talk to Toby before any club only when he rejects than Levy was activated... lol

See the link in the article on the front page of SC to the Daily Telegraph article. If accurate it's quite informative.

If the legal problems are all sorted & he does visit the training ground, then he will be obviously impressed & will sign asap I think.

I wonder how they are preparing...is levy making some nice scones, or is he preparing a bed covered in rose petals.

Either way, if he wants to sign for us Southampton need to build a bridge and get the fuck over it.

If TA really is coming for a medical I'd assume we expect the only repercussions of Soton's financial claim to be financial compensation. In which case AM are still better off dealing with us as the option price was so low.

Also points out DL is looking to pay much more than Soton are obliged too, and when you add that to players leaving early at fair prices, maybe he has changed after all. Poch must be a wizard...

Definitely reckon part of it is levy taking revenge over ms and it's just beautiful to see. Scbc wankers.

Loving the Roberts links too, this is where we can truly compete because our youth/training set up is fkin awesome (yes, said in true rhino style)

My main concern is how to actually pronounce his name...

To-bee?

Too-bi?

Oh forget it. I will just call him Granakazoo.

From the Goats Gazebo:

''The Goat has heard that we are preparing for Toby Alderweireld to come to the training ground on Tuesday.

This came to The Goat's source before the legal shenanigans broke so we do not know if that will change things.''

What does that mean?

I have this disturbing image of Daniel Levy in a french maid's outfit running about with a feather duster, frantically dusting everything in sight, whilst telling everybody to look their most fabulous.

Exactly. Southampton keep saying they expect him to join, but they know rightly he isn't about to do that. I think they're just trying to generate leverage in some vein attempt to get a little compensation. I don't even how they'd be entitled to that either.

Southampton obviously negotiated a price for him, but it matters not if he doesn't want to sign.

AM own the player, so the time element in a buy out close is still irrelevant if TA doesn't want to sign because he has better offers. Its almost like Southampton are trying to create a situation that this is all AM's doing (to get more money etc) and poor wee Toby doesn't have a choice.

That Telegraph article seems to imply that Saints just want their 1.5m (which apparently they have yet to receive) rather than demanding the player signs with them. As we have paid well over what Saints would need to have (11.5m compared to 6.8m), I don't think the deal is at risk as we have effectively compensated both sides.
