Not forgetting we also have already shifted O'Hara, would be great business and add a lot more fight into the midfield.

how would Barton take not starting, which would happen with Sandro fit? I suppose the same could be said with Diarra.

Barton has more of a physical presence at 4 inches taller. Less cultured, but doesn't take up a "foreign" squad place. I would be thinking it's Sandro and Barton fighting for a place (no pun intended) with Diarra and THudd as options to Luka for some games. But if we get both, then Pienaar and JJ look a bit spare.

Pienaar always looked a bit spare to this observer. I think he's a fairy.

I have been somewhat disappointed that we haven't jumped at the chance to sign Barton. Here's hoping that there's some truth in this latest piece of ITK.

I'd be quite happy with some ITK about outgoing players today, Harry's comments about having no takers for our fringe players are a bit worrying!

From Fernando Llorente to Joey Barton...

Think I'm going to come back tomorrow! :(

Barton stuck enough right on Andy Carroll's head to make me think Llorente might just enjoy playing with him!

The barton thing does seem a bit weird, my pecking order would be,

Modders
Thudd
Sandro
Diara
Barton
Jenas
Pienaar

Granted Pienaar doesn't play there really but he's an option(a terrible one imo). It does seem to many.

Or...OR the players will be rotated depending on the opposition and fixture and players' form and fitness.

Selling Palacios and Jenas for 15m and signing Diarra and Barton for 15m would be excellent bit of business. We will have to pay more wages but that's a definite upgrade

This. Don't forget though that these two would effectively replace not only Jenas and Palacios, but also O'Hara and Bentley at the same time. So we'd be quids in on transfer fees and wages, and have a more streamlined squad. Replace Gio with a pacey option like Afellay or Marin and our midfield would be second to none with little to no net outlay.

That's actually a very good point. Barton's centres from the right to Carroll were a mainstay of Newcastles. When those two didn't BOTH play, they were much less of a threat. Barton's delivery is nearly as good as Bentley's, and his overall play (tracking back, tackling, kicking people in the nuts) is much better.

Agree with Cas, can't see Hudd playing much even if we don't sign Barton. IMO he's behing Modric, Sandro, Diarra and Barton.

If (big IF) we sign both Diarra and Barton, I'd look to cash in on Hudd now. Weren't Sunderland enquiring about him earlier in the window?

those tottenham riot scenes crazy last night. hope it does not inpact in any way our attemots to get funds and money for new stadium!

I thought we were starting the ground clearance.

What short term memories some poeple have. You're mental if you think Barton is a better player than Hudd... Pointless argument anyway as it's very clear how highly Harry rates thud(rightly so imo). Point still stands about it perhaps being 1 or 2 too many.

Hudd was certainly behind Mods, Sandro and a fit wilson so I don't think he rates him that highly. Barton and Diarra are both better players as wel imo.

I don't think we need to sign Barton AND Diarra. One or the other, I'd say.

And if we're gonna sign two of something - please let it be strikers!

Modders
Thudd
Sandro
Diara
Barton
Jenas
Pienaar

Pienaar and Sandro are both injured, and THudd has seemingly endless knee and ankle issues. Without Diarra and/or Barton, we would look a bit light.
