Really thought after this mornings itk we would actually sign someone today, disappointed again

As long as you don't expect anything to happen, you can never be disappointed!

Tottenham will always surprise you when you least suspect it...

The two phrases I haven't seen this window so far are "take with a bucket full of salt" and "****** in for....."

If POTL is sounding so optimistic then it's a good sign that something will happen, just not exactly when it will happen

can i just say im sure brownhead was saying we are after a croat but NOT SRNA...

That was me bud. A Croat playing outside of croatia. Could have been srna in the end. Never got a follow up

Woohoo! We are NOT signing Carlton Cole. He has joined Stoke for £6m.

Now. For those who had a go at me saying we couldn't get £15m for Defoe? £6m for Cole?!?!?

Definately dodged one there

it's what being a spurs fan is all about

Keep the faith though

Oh I will, as difficult as it is at times I won't give up just yet on getting that striker :)

Very true, and thats always the best transfers, the ones that come out of the blue.

where do people get their info?

Cole to stoke, and City have bid for Nasri??????????

Twitter journalists.

Guardian Sport confirms Cole to Stoke after Jerome failed to agree personal terms.

City bid for Nasri came from Sky Sports Italia.

interesting the bid for nasri coming in at roughly the same as chelski's bid for luka, how can they be serious when henderson went for 20m, overpriced homegrown players, it's madness

I am calm, just frustrated as I can see it happening again.

There was over a month to go last season at this point too, but tell me this, what would have happened to us had Real not rang us with VDV?

We can all see it happening again - it is a faculty of the imagination to be able to forward project htpothetical outcomes from any given situation. Your problem is that you can only creating one possible outcome when there are millions, and it is an extremely negative one.

I can see it happening again - but, on the other hand I really don't think it will.
Maybe I am being hyper-optimistic, but I really don't believe Dan Levy would set himself a target of making Spurs competitive at the very top of the English and European game again (which is what he has done), get so close, and then just...not bother. The fact is that he has been on a steep learning curve, and this explains why sometimes he underestimates what needs to be done - like last Summer and in January underestimating just how hard it would be to get a geuine World Class striker.
But, from what I have seen, whenever the crunch arrives, armed with everything he has learned on that part of the learning curve, he seems to act decisively. It is clear we need a complete overhaul of the strikeforce, and from I can see he is not setting about doing just that. Surely that is something to be optimistic about. The fact that we are a whole 8 days into the transfer window and you feel like this says more for your pessimism than our transfer activity.
I don't know that he will finally resolve our striking dilemma anymore than you know that he won't. But I do think there are grounds for optimism, and would suggest you show a little more patience.

Tottenham are ready to sign the 'new Didier Drogba' - Ivory Coast's sensational teenage striker Souleymane Coulibaly.
Spurs supremo Daniel Levy has teed up a stunning £2 million deal for Coulibaly, who has scored nine goals in just four games at the mini World Cup in Mexico.
Coulibaly - just 16 years and six months - bagged back-to-back hat-tricks, including some amazing strikes to get some of the game's giants stampeding for the young 'Elephant' hit man.
The fantastic talent plays for AC Siena's youth team but he can be bought and Spurs are flying to Italy today in a bid to seal the deal ahead of Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Coulibaly has been likened to Drogba because of his explosive power and shooting and the fact that he is almost half the age of the Ivory Coast and Chelsea star.
And while Harry Redknapp would love the original version if Chelsea would sell, crafty Levy has worked on the move to land the new version.
Spurs have so much faith in Coulibaly that they will offer him a squad number and promote him to Redknapp's first-team squad immediately - all part of the incentive to sign.
Levy has masterminded Tottenham's transfers so far this summer, landing keeper Brad Friedel for nothing and bringing in Mexican hot shot Antonio Pedroza Whitham who has just arrived in London.

You should have put that at the end, then it would have got us going! :)

An Italian raid for Vucinic and Coulibaly - sounds plausible, although I'm certainly not getting my hopes up of anything happening over the weekend.
