Would be disappointed to see daws go but can understand it also. Guess that means we are keeping Bassong!

Not so sure, we need at most 5 CB's and currently with Dawson gone we'd have:

RCB: Kaboul, Gallas
LCB: Verts, Caulker

I think we'll keep Bassong only if we can't bring in a RCB who can also cover at RB, someone with a bit of experience at the high line

If we sell Dawson and keep Bassong i'd be disgusted!!!! Can't see it happening. Pace or no pace, Dawson is important to our squad.

IMO he still has 1 season ahead of Caulker who still lacks experience. No doubt he will become very good.

Wouldn't necessarily stop Liverpool in looking to bring him in though - just means we can claim top dollar for him.

True but I'd be absolutely astonished though if Levy were to sanction such a sale. Goes completely against what we are trying to acheive as a club.

Yeh we're going to sell our most promising young CB who also happens to play at LCB (rarer) and also will count towards both our home grown and club trained contingent - NO CHANCE IN HELL.

I really don't think Caulker will be going anywhere in this window. With Gallas and Bassong both possibly on their way out in the near to mid-near (it's a word) future I think getting rid of Caulker would be pretty daft.

If Leandro is sorted then that would be amazing news although I still think Defoe will start against Newcastle.

It still feels as if there's a lot to do in this window and I think we could be in for a very busy three weeks. There's at least 5 players I could see leaving (and that doesn't include Modric) and I think we'll need at least 5 to come in.

Frustrating but still potentiall exciting times.

I would have thought that AVB saying that Dawson was in contention to be captain meant he was in his plans. Not sure i'm buying the Goats info.

Not sure what losing him would do to dressing room morale. You'd expect he'd be quite popular.

As much as i like Dawson i really have to disagree with this. First off he played the grand total of 7 games last season for us, so he clearly isn't that important.

Secondly if he has no pace and we are going to be playing a high line defence then he will be an incredible liability in defense for us, so hardly important to the squad.

You have to remeber, that apart from injuries, your 2 main CB's should be playing almost all the league games together throughout a season, so unless Kaboul picks up an injury then Dawson would be resigned, at best, to mostly cup and PL rotation. Not to mention the fact that Gallas may well be preferred to Dawson, in which case even a fully fit Dawson will likely find himself on the bench for three quarters of next season.

I don't see why we need a replacement if Dawson goes. We already have Bassong, Gallas, Caulker, Vertonghen and Kaboul. Only really Gallas is injury prone out of that group.

And here was me thinking A&C's intro was REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it" only to find that the Goat thinks we might have signed a striker.

I guess it really is the end of the world! :D

Please let the Leandro bit be true. He's in perfect form at the Olympics to hit the ground running too. With his confidence sky high I think he could jump straight into the team and make an early impact.
His long ball from the back approach to play as well.
This more than the lack of pace. AVB needs his defenders to be cultured on the ball and be able to play out from defence. King was the best at this and now we have Vertonghen to partner Kaboul instead. Caulker looks very assured with the ball at his feet too. Dawson seems the odd one out here with his old school last ditch style defending and long balls.

I'd be ok with Dawson being sold simply because I think he deserves to be playing regular first team football anyway. He could play for any of the teams outside the top 6 imo.

The new deal Caulker recently signed with us would scupper that

Liverpool telling City that Agger will cost £25m! What proportion of that would they need to spend on Caulker do you reckon? If we really played hard ball - £10m? More? Really depends on what Spurs (and Rodgers also) really think of him.

Exactly, and we did perfectly well without him - hence the statement from me that he clearly isn't that important - otherwise we'd have shipped a load more goals and finished lower down the league.

True. I'd like to keep Dawson though over a couple of the others due to his standing at the club. Been captain, signed a while back at a young age, he's English, he's old skool.

In saying all of that though, his injury record is pretty shocking and business is business I suppose.
