But that is exactly my point. You are assuming without actually knowing. You may well be correct, and probably are tbf, but from time to time deals that look gone, do come back from the dead. If you remember JJ said Toby was a no go, and at that point in time that was the case. Then all of a sudden circumstances changed and it was on again. Like I said I don't know the details here but until he signs for Juve things could, from what we actually know(which is very little) change.

The signings in 2015 pushed us up a level. The signing of Wanyama pushed us up a level last season. Let's not pretend the transfer window isn't hugely important for Poch.

He's not an actual magician, he needs the right additions to squad. Right now it's been by far the worst window since he became manager and he knows that we desperately need 2 or 3 quality additions to push on again. I think we will sign a couple of players but it's been a shambles so far.

So the signing of wanyama (1 player) pushed us up a level enough that would have won us the PL the season before, but now we need 2-3 to push on another level? Who's to say that the signing (if/when it happens) of Barkley isn't that player?

This is what I know.



The commercial department have been working on Barkley stuff. This usually happens towards the end of the negotiation.



We had a guy in Northern Italy back in early July. I was never told who we were speaking with (may have been more than one target). I'm pretty sure I mentioned the Italy thing at the time. I can only assume this is the same as JJ but who knows. If it's Balde then that would make sense.



We are looking at RBs but not mega money players and Trippier is seen as number one.

Was there not something about Lazio having a training camp near Milan or something in preseason?

As for Barkley ITK, fingers crossed. Would be nice not to completely crash and burn on at least one target this summer!
