On the other hand we do need an effective striker up front to knock in the goals if Kane gets injured, loses form or needs a rest. Benteke would be a quality addition to the side. I believe that they could play well together with Kane in the #10 role.

Why waste Kane in the number 10 role when he has proved to be an excellent CF?

We need to build the team around him not move him to position where he is not as effective.

I agree but that's forgettingthat our rivals have also strengthened.

You're only as good as the teams around you, and the same applies to transfers.
Realistically, who are our rivals?

Right now, Chelsea, ManCity, ManUtd, Arsenal are a step above us, with more resources - we are never going to beat them by outspending them. This is not to say we can't won't beat them, but we are not competing with them in the transfer window.

Liverpool have strengthened on paper. Lets see what happens on the pitch.

Nobody else has improved to expect to be above us. Southampton certainly has not, and now they are adding Europa league. Who else has improved?

A 3-5-2 with Benteke and Kane could be very interesting IMO, especially if we picked up another CB like suggested. That said I have serious doubts about Benteke's attitude towards training and his injury record. Not sure where that would leave Chadli and Lamela though (backup forwards or Eriksen backup).

A cut price deal for someone like Llorente could be more interesting however as he would be less demanding of game time and allow us to stick to Poch's plans.

I don't get all the doom and gloom. We just finished 5th. We are not losing any key players from the team that finished 5th in the league. We have added some depth to the team before the window even opens. Wimmer, Trippier, Alli, Pritchard alone make the overall squad better than last year - because we will have more depth that Pochettino is willing to play. We can expect the returning 1st team players to be improved and re-invigorated - experience, continuity and a full pre-season alone will make us better than last season.

Our transfer work is not done, and while we (including me) all would love a player who slots into the starting XI, if we did no other business, we are better than we were last year. Its time to appreciate what we have, and if we get anything else, consider it a bonus.

So far we have not lost any key players - but past history indicates that we tend to lose one 'star' over the summer. Maybe this summer will be different. Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if Lloris moves to another club in the coming months. Man Utd or PSG would be my best guess as to where.

The news that Rabiot is still of interest opens the door a little wider on a PSG shift...

You're right in that if Benteke came he would likely be starting as many games as Kane - and that would eat into the game time of other players. But that would be one heck of a strike force!

Not sure about Llorente. Would prefer someone like Heung-Min Son - but someone mentioned that he still has national service to perform in South Korea.

But we really do need an alternative to Harry Kane. Imagine if he gets injured. Where would we be then?

Rabiot is represented by his mother. Personally always a bit cautious of players represented by family members. Negotiations appear to be more emotive and they have an inflated sense of their importance.

Bentaleb is classic example.

Pundits in France believe Rabiot's mother/agent is a very difficult person to deal with.

Jay's missus' dietary requirements, Benteke, 352, Liverpool, Lorrente & Lloris... Still nobody is even as close to as upset as when we enjoyed a few puns in a row.

And is totally unlikely to challenge Kane for a place and even less likely to score goals.

I agree with what you're saying - but up to a point. Harry Kane has played the deeper centre forward role with us and been effective at it. And he can pick out a nice pass too. Maybe Pochettino could develop his career further in this sort of role.

Having both players as the point of our attack could be a deadly combination.

Puns really? When A&C finds out he will Freak as See-n previously during pun runs.

You can't see it, but I'm high fiving myself for that turd.
