Thanks for the update Herc

It's so disheartening, but a leopard doesn't change it's spots

As long as Levy is in charge, we will never make that final step to challenge seriously because he doesn't have the mindset to build a team or squad with that capability.

It really, really is disheartening and so predictable.Dan the one trophy man and his antics . We are going to look like right pricks again when Fab moves on to a rival. Frank Arnesen all over again I fear.

It was JM that didn't want Dias not DL
Nuno position was Traore would definitely help us - club and everyone on transfer committee (inc Nuno) tried to do but agreed 45-50M is a gamble in current climate of a global pandemic with lost revenue. All happy.
Alrighty, here we go.

Our DoF was given a budget, which he performed miracles, and kept well within. Basically near net-spend, without getting tied down on exact figures. If you take time to calculate our signings, they were basically ‘loans’ in essence. Yes! There are ‘Options/Obligations’. So not much spent.

Our DoF took on his role, as he was assured DL would not interfere once given his budget. The only time he would is if we were likely to exceed it. The financial department, and DL would sign off.

I said privately our DoF requested the help of Mendez on certain deals , more to assist the selling club, but also us. And I will not divulge beyond that. Around three weeks ago we started to make moves for Traoré, but for this to happen Mendez had to get a ‘mandate’ to assist. This was known privately, even before the media got wind of it.

The player himself made it known to Wolves, he wanted to join us. Liverpool were interested, but knocked back. We offered a derisory sum to Wolves. This at the interference of DL, who did not like the sound of ‘cash’ in any form, though spread out over term of his contract. He then suggested we do ‘Loan with option’ and insulting offer. He then offered ‘obligation’ but same offer. The initial down payment was a joke.

His view was ‘Traoré has around just under two years left’ and feel it was bad business to offer what Wolves wanted. Traoré told Wolves he would not be signing a new contract. Tuesday agreement was reached we would as good as meet their valuation, based upon realistic incentives, which was relayed they would accept. A meeting was held by DL and those involved, and he was not happy to sanction such an outlay. And argued on Stevie, Lucas, Gil, Lucas as ‘just as good’ and better. And we should use them in the mid-term.

There is/was money for a ‘special purchase’ and was being saved for the striker department. Nuno viewed Traoré as the ideal player to fulfil various roles, and create space etc, for our ‘capabilities to create goal scoring opportunities for players like Dele, Kane, Lucas, Gil, Son, GLC’

It was viewed that we need to cover this area, seeing we failed to bring in a striker, even on loan. We also tried for Neves lol.

I will be surprised if Paratici is here at the end of his contract, and already clubs over here looking at him. If you really believe Nuno will work under these conditions beyond his remit (2 years) we are wrong. Same reasons why he left Wolves

My conclusion is Mr Daniel Levy cannot let go, cannot grip himself. And Paratici is no glove puppet. For all of us very long-suffering supporters, I feel for us, because our club is a drug in our veins. COYS

I'm confused. JJ appears to suggest all is good. Herc - Chernobyl.

It frustrates me that people defend / attack levy on the basis of if they rate the player we didn't get.

It is irrelevant if you don't think Traore is worth it. The people Daniel levy employs for their football expertise clearly feel he is and that we needed him so levy should have backed them considering the great business they had already achieved.

This is an ongoing issue and he keeps getting away with it. Countless people have come and gone with varying levels of success. One man has hired them all and he has now over seen one measly third rate trophy in twenty years and yet here we are with the same tired defences.

He really has earned that Teflon nickname.

Still think that if Adama Traore was ever a player worth us spending 50m on or everyone falling out over, that it was remiss of everyone involved to not have tried to go for him as our number one target at the opening of the window, as that's number one target money. If DL has even had a chance to cock anything up regarding such a transfer at a late stage, then it's largely because it was at such a late stage at all. It did the whole time seem pretty half baked a plan to try and prise him out after the season has already started when we'd have had no option but to pay out the arse in extra costs due to season having begun and him being in the same league, never mind Wolves crap start highlighting that they need their best players, so I simply cannot blame DL for not liking the situation and cost either (or even the transfer committee as a whole as JJ's info seemed to suggest).

Either way though I'm mainly hoping that all involved can now get their heads down and we can get on with the season proper. This window, given when he was appointed and the pandemic circumstances, was never going to be the making or breaking of Fab with Tottenham Hotspur. That's going to be next summer when he has a full year to assess the squad and target how to get it to where it needs to be. Personally very happy with the type of players that we've signed and have otherwise looked at, ironically really all of them except Traore! But love to be proved wrong so hopefully he has a good season and if we're still interested then maybe he can have convinced those of us who don't see him being worth that, Levy included, that he's worth that type of main target money and we go back in for him.

Hercules has had more peaks & troughs this year than a roller-coaster! The fella is also very emotionally-driven, it appears.

I'd trust JJ, personally.

Different types of posters for sure, different sources i assume, but diametrically opposed on this issue.

Yeah, if we were going to sign him we should have done it earlier.

Waiting until TDD wouldn't have worked with us/Kane, and it clearly didn't work with Wolves/Traore. Stupid tactic considering the footballing climate in transfers, so if it was a Paratici decision/tactic, he's done very well to not draw any blame/criticism.

Just turned 20, so not signing Traore is going to help rather than hinder this kind of thing.
(only signed a new one year one in January I think)

Yep, to be fair to the kid he's doing what he needs to at youth level, hopefully he's rewarded with some cup action and signs a new deal.

Kid should be on the bench imho. He has it all. Him and Scarlet are the ones who are ready right now, to be slowly given few minutes like in ECL.

Yeah ECL will hopefully be a blessing in disguise and give some of these lads a pathway. John too.

I could bite, but trying my best to resist. I respect and know JJ. Have all the time in the world for him. Like us all, he has called things wrong that was right at the time. Maybe we shouldn’t bother share anything then. I am emotionally driven as an addictive passionate fan, supporter. All I share is 100% factual at the time. If things change and I share it, I’m ‘an emotional roller coaster’. Lol?

Very, very well I'd say, as he's also got plenty cheering on a signing openly leveraging Mendes links, which would have gone down like a lead balloon a few weeks back! Was not the right signing for me anyway but as soon as the price got near 40m and Mendes is literally recruited to try and get the deal done I think we should all have been rowing back at a fair rate, imo.

What I don’t get throughout the Traore saga is comparing it to the Ndombele transfer to justify not bringing him in. Not even remotely comparable IMO.

With Ndombele, he was coming from a different league and already had a rep from both Amiens and Lyon about attitude and laziness. He had never played in the premiership, which players often take time to acclimatise to, both in a footballing sense and a personal one living in the UK. He was clearly a gamble at that price which ever way you look at it.

With Traore you know exactly what you are getting, in the form of a premiership proven difference maker. You know at worst, even if he doesn’t add more goals to his game, he is a player with tremendous work rate, stamina, strength and dribbling proficiency. It was no where near the gamble that Ndombele was, especially when you factor in he’s played the last few seasons under our current manager, so you know his attitude fits with what Nuno wants in the squad.

I can understand people thinking the price for Traore was too steep, and that’s fair enough, but to use the Ndombele mess as a justification of spending the fee is laughable to me.

Just pointing out 2 very opposing views from 2 very respected posters. I am not taking sides, so no need to bite ??
