though very different players, I quite rate Winks, Dier and have high expectations of Skipp.

Agree with this.

Well yes, but players bedding in is surely a necessary by product of signing better players than the ones you have, no?

For sure. I'm just trying to keep expectations at a realistic level. I remember how long it took Poch to get Moura on the pitch even though it seemed blatantly obvious at the time that we needed his sort of dynamiam up front. I think many will be expecting to see Ndombele and LoCelso start v Villa (like they would on Fifa or FM or whatever the games are).

Fanbloodytastic window in my eyes.. Of course I would have LOOVED Dybala/Coutinho/Bale, but they were always long shots in my opinion. Would have been amazing, but sadly not to be. My main desires were the three guys we have added to the first team. TN, GLC, and Sess were put forward early by ITK and I totally agreed with those three signings. I am excited as to what all three will bring to the team.

As long as we don’t lose any more players we have, then this is a pretty bloody good day. COYS

So many more options than last year. We won’t have to run winks & Sissoko into the ground.

The creative burden can be shared, we’re not totally reliant on Eriksen.

Competition for places has increased. With everyone fit it’s no longer a case of knowing who will start, which wasn’t the case last season.

I think we achieved what we set out to do this summer. For anyone asking/expecting to strengthen defensively & force Eriksen into signing or leaving, you have to be realistic.

I’m really optimistic about this season, if we can get some luck on the injury front (which we’re surely due) we could threaten the top 2 again.

Perhaps, I did say ‘arguably’ quite deliberately :)

We probably don’t have the best squad, but I don’t think player for player there’s much to choose between the two. They’re stronger at right back granted, but I think we’re superb at every other position. I just don’t see the hole in our squad, and even if Eriksen leaves I’m actually not sure it matters, though of course I’d much prefer he stayed.

Let’s put it this way, all players fit, we could have the following bench:

Gazzaniga, Sanchez, Davies, Sissoko, Dele, Lamela, Lucas

and that’s with no Foyth, Aurier, Dier or Sessegnon even making the squad.

That my friend is astounding depth in quality.

@mattyspurs I think we’re on the same page :)
Take heed, Eriksen- this is how one takes a transfer window penalty

While I'm not surprised that we didn't get Dybala, I thought the reason would be that the image rights issue would prove insurmountable. The clubs had agreed a deal and the player wanted to come, but word is that Juve decided not to sell.

Very odd. I hope one of the ITKs can shed some light on it.

Speaking of which, my thanks to all of the ITKs for the info, to A&C for his peerless moderation, to all of the admins who put so much work into SC; and last, but by no means least, to Rob for starting and running by far the best Spurs site on the web.

A lot of people, including the media, are massively underestimating our business, particularly Ndombele.

That was an area we desperately needed to strengthen with real quality, and we've done that.

The other massive factor in all this is that our squad and key players have got much needed rest.

We've the best centre forward in the world, certainly in the traditional sense, and I think we're going to see a huge season from him, not to mention the supply lines to him have surely improved.

Honestly can't believe those muppets on SSN. Even Jamie Ohara couldn't see it.

We've got huge strength in detph now.

Completely agree particularly with NDombele. I really think people have no clue how good he really is and seem to just overlook the fact we signed one of Europes premier midfielders. NDombele is the real deal and I am both surprised and thrilled we signed him.

You can bet your arse it would be different if United signed him

No chance. Juventus will definitely sell Dybala this summer. Inter is interested and plan to trade Icardi for him.

We had our chance to close the deal. We just failed to finish it for whatever reason. A bit disappointed.

A trade for Icardi does nothing for their FFP issues though

A little devils advocate opinion here.
Have we improved really our starting line-up here at all

Defense - possibly lot weaker

No real right back, 2 centre halves now a year older that we have probably already seen best of, left back we have actively been trying to flog

Midfield - Stronger

Ndombele for Sissoko should give us better protection, but not sure the marginal gain is that great considering how Sissoko played last season
Does Lo Celso even come in to team, and as a replacement for who ? Winks maybe. Even if he does could take a season at least to adapt to Premier League.

If Eriksen does leave, then would say we are arguably weaker in midfield also, with the team we could put out

Can't see Sessegnon being more than a cup team player.

You could argue defence is stronger, Sanchez and Forth a year older, and Tanganga coming though as well as a few others.

Mora will be better next season.

Trippier cost us a lot of points, rose will start the season fit, and KWP is a talent.

Oh and I fully accept that I’m an optimistic fool. I don’t, fwiw, see us winning the league this season, but I do see us playing some exquisite football, up with the 16/17 season levels, and finishing top 3 minimum. I’m very optimistic about grabbing a trophy along the way,

I think this is a transitional season and I hope things click, as you say league is probably out of reach but lets get into the knockouts of the champions league, by time knockouts come around our team should be firing on all cylinders and maybe we can add that special signing come Jan and make another push for that Trophy, that's my desire this season.

How can anyone say our defence is a lot weaker, we only lost Tripps and everyone moaned when he was in the starting 11 last year. We haven’t replaced him but all the players that should have started before him last year are still here so we might not be stronger, but weaker, nah.
