A lot of people still really don't understand Poch and the project

He doesn't like signing ready-made solutions. He likes improving players and the unit through coaching. That's his bag, and that's why him and Levy are on the same page.

Making John McDermott our DoF was a big sign we'd follow the Winks/Onomah/Edwards/2CV route

We really don't need sisoko for that price. We have dembele wanyama Ali and dier that can play in the middle. All of which I prefer. Personally I would have kept mason but we got a good price for him. Chill guys

I don't come on here to say anything and this is why, we are in Champions League, and a Strong Attacking player like a "Sissoko" would have been spot on. but I guess we'll stick with Alli,Dembele & Dier

I'm sadly not surprised...

Current transfer window (inc Townsend from last Jan where Spurs bought no one):

£5m Yedlin
£3m (post loan) Fazio
£12m Townsend
£13m Chadli
£17m (post loan) Bentelab
£13m Mason
£9m Pritchard
£72m

Vs

£17m Jannsen
£11m Victor W
£11m Nkoudou
£5m (post loan) Lopez
£44m

Circa £28m left over with wages freed up too. Keep our net spend positive as is our mantra...

Our squad is going to be a joke particularly given the CL commitments!!!

...and N'Jie and Musa Yahaya

Levy has repeatedly said during THST meetings that the stadium will not affect spending on the pitch. There are two separate accounts. Plus the fact that this season there is something like 60 million extra TV money, and 30 million CL money which was not budgeted for when the stadium was costed. That is extra money. There is also something like 20 million profit from this transfer dealings and you are implying that the stadium is preventing buying one or two good quality players to improve the starting eleven. You're talking bollox.

Like I said, I'm literally quoting our manager. But yeah I'm the one talking "bollox" [sic]

The problem is that the extra TV revenue is normally eaten up by wage inflation. Just to stand still we have to negotiate new contracts with players over time, and they/their agents know we have more money to play with, that other clubs are offering more and therefore demand more. On club accounts, player spending is made up of two factors: the wages, and transfer fees paid over the course of a player's contract (e.g. a £20m fee for a player joining on a 4 year deal is shown as £5M per year, plus whatever his wages are). On this measure, we are very likely still the 6th biggest spenders in the league, just as we're the 6th highest revenue club (miles behind the top 5).

TL;DR: Transfer fees are far less important than wages, which go up over time for quality players and which we spend plenty on.

i doubt on that basis will be the 6th highest

So what does this mean?

My own comments based on various bits we've heard are in brackets but it all seems to tally up.

We agreed terms with Isco and Madrid but then Isco decided not to come (this tallies with what we've heard, Madrid were happy but player wasn't).

We agreed terms with Sissoko but couldn't agree price with Newcastle (we wouldn't match the payment terms, they wanted too much up front and we wanted installments).

Yes! My bingo card is complete, last thing just ticked off:

"We agreed terms with the player but couldn't do the deal"

Spurs Transfer Window Bingo is getting too easy

Why has he stated on numerous occasions that he wants us to sign more players this window then?

Its almost like we overachieved to the point where the board don't know what to do with themselves. Whilst I have no ideas that they wouldn't want us to get into the CL, I do however believe that a 5-7th finish would suffice for the next few years as its a relatively good season without needing to spend some cash to get us to "the next level".

You missed N'Jie, but of those you listed, only Chadli and Mason played any minutes and they've been directly replaced.

A 27YO mediocre journeyman with questionable temprement is a Redknapp signing, not a Poch one

After 15 years of ENIC we STILL end up with these deadline day farces. The Euros ended nearly two months ago. And we decide to go for Sissoko now? Just as well Levy is in football. There can't be many other businesses where such last-minute ludicrous planning wouldn't get you the sack.

There's always hope for him in a Govt. Brexit Cabinet role at least.

So now Ali has changed his tune to doom and gloom. I'm defo sure nobody else is coming in. He was the only one keeping me with a glimmer of hope.

it won't affect spending on players as there is not really much spending to affect!!!
