Wait...people wanted to sign Barkley to be a Dembele replacement but are upset we are now going for Gomes instead?

He would be better for that role than Barkley ever would be.

Counterpoint - He is being sold this year BY Barça - because he is not the heir to Iniesta...

Still hope we get him - but not with the expectation that he is going into the starting XI

If he was seen as Iniesta's heir at one time, surely he can still grow. A single year doesn't always define a player's career!

Does Andre Gomes have an international game for Portugal tonight pretty sure Jansen does for Holland too must be horrible for international managers having deadline day on the same day there playing an important match.......

At WHL though, we do need pace in Europe and at Wembley.

But getting Aurier in means we will have (with rose back) lighting pace out wide with a back 3 formation. In a 3421 that we often play there isn't place for a pacey wide forward. they would have to replace Alli or Eriksen. In a 4231 I agree it would be more useful but that then limits our ability to utilise the full backs. Not forgetting that N'Koudou and KWP are as quick as you are likely to find and can play the more attacking roles. I really don't see it as a huge concern. Yes we missed pace on Sunday but we also messed about and took the game too easy trying to play fancy flicks and turns. Look at the potential squad and tell me we don't have options and pace!?

Lloris Vorm Gazza
Trippier Aurier KWP Rose Davies
Toby Verts Dier Sanchez Foyth
Wanyama Dembele Winks Gomes
Eriksen Alli Son Lamela Sissoku N'Koudou
Llorente Kane

Another plus of Gomes is that he can share first hand how its not necessarily all roses to move to a Barca / Real Madrid type club. Throw some water on those who might be looking to do so. :)

I'm assuming by the way that Gomes is/was the "bit of a special but unlikely one" the ITK's have been alluding to?

Considering the state of play two weeks ago getting Sanchez, Aurier, Foyth, Llorente & Gomes (Fingers crossed on the last two) means it is a better transfer window than expected.

whilst this is how most of us will reflect upon the window tomorrow, right now is all about waiting to hear that we are trying to get a worldie over the line before 11pm

Gomes is a Cm, not an am in case anyone thinks are signing a number 10

likes to dribble and drive forward with the ball, so could be a dembele competition player but not fit to lace his boots

My God the goals we'd score whilst always keeping a clean sheet

Why try for width at Wembley when we can cover the whole fucking pitch?!

I could be wrong, but Gomes strikes me as an opportunistic signing. As in, we haven't spent four months working on it. Seems like it just popped up as an alternative to Barkley. If Poch is happy with him, so am I. Likewise, if the Carrick comparisons are to be believed, I'm all for this. Been a while since we had a midfield maestro that can quarterback the team. Also puts less pressure on Eriksen to be the sole creator of opportunities. I hope we pull it off.

Because, despite how amazing Poch has been with our team and transforming players, people are obsessed with a 'big name'
If anything, though, it's the opposite: signing anyone from Barca is headline-grabbing in itself. It's the position that's the issue.
