Finish 2nd.

Ship an unhappy Walker to City for enough cash to buy his replacement (3 years younger and with a higher ceiling) AND a huge CB prospect that immediately improves our ability to play in the back three.

Also sign a player for the future in Foyth.

Then FINALLY sign a legitimate backup striker.

To me it seems we took a great Spurs team, literally the best in the Prem era, and strengthened. Maybe we didn't sign a world class dream player, but we certainly did enough.

With Sissoko and N'Koudou still around, we either couldn't find an upgrade and/or we believe in them enough to provide something to the squad.

I'm not BSoDL, and while it does seem that we made around 90m this window and will have only spent 70m, I still think this was a very smart window from Spurs.

Really.........

I just don't get this obsession with pace. Our paceless team was being lauded everywhere in April & May, we destroyed teams. Where were people saying "this is alright, we need more pace though" then ? Driving me mad
For me it comes down to the fact that we've been in the market for a pacey attacker for three years now and have yet to get one good enough to play a significant role in the squad.

It's obvious that Poch wants a player of this type and is not satisfied with the options we've given him (Njie, Nkoudou, Sissoko). That for me is reason enough to want to bring one in.

No I'm not young. It's not believing what anyone says it's watching our team - every man and his dog knows what we've needed all summer. We had to get a wide option and for me if we miss out then it's a huge fuck up by us

We don't need a wide option, this whole argument over pace is redundant because our system uses fullbacks for width and pace, the reason we have struggled is Trippier hasn't been getting in behind like Walker used to and Davies has been taken out of the game because he is a bigger attacking threat than Trippier.

We have Son who plays wide left and we just got a fast attacking fullback in Aurier, we wasn't complaining about pace last season when we finished 2nd either, it's a strawman argument imo.

Our problem at the moment is we aren't moving the ball around quick enough in midfield or moving it forward quick enough and a few of our players have been lacking in concentration and have been wasteful with their finishing, also, our options off the bench have been poor, which has been addressed so far in this window.

It's been a good window and this is coming from someone who was complaining a few days ago, if we can get one more in, like Barkley for example or maybe another attacking player then I would go as far to say that it's been one of our best windows in recent memory.

It's just another typical spurs deadline day .... always lead to believe there's a chance of something fantastic then get the old just couldn't be done. It just sums us up

Another appalling window in my opinion.

We haven't strengthened we just replaced like for like

1 thing is for certain though and if the window ends like this Mr Pochettino will be severely disappointed with Daniel Levy and his stupid cheque book policies

I don't think you have been paying attention...

What a load of tosh.

Walker replaced like for like with one of the top right backs on the planet, Aurier, who has also won two French leagues and twice been in Ligue 1 Team Of The Year. A proven winner.

Wimmer and CCV, both not trusted (hence Dier seeing so much CB time) replaced with Sanchez and Foyth, the latter of whom is one of the highest rated prospects anyway and a copa libetadores winner at a very young age. A proven winner.

Llorente, still at the peak of his powers based on last season in this league, a player who has scored goals regularly in three of the 4 top European leagues, has won Serie A multiple times and the World Cup, A proven winner.

Gazzaniga, a player who we would have only signed if Pochettino had wanted him given that he signed him for Southampton, barely anyone (chairman included probably) had even heard of him previously, so clearly someone Pochettino trusts. Also, remember back up goalkeepers also double up as sparring partners/ extra goalie coaches.

Andre Gomes, if it happens, a skillful, dynamic central midfielder with a good passing range and a lot of energy, also very composed, who won Euro 2016 on top of the Portuguese title at a young age. Another winner, and yes he may have not made it at Barca after transfer at a young age to a highly pressurised club, but then neither did Alexis Sanchez, neither did Ibrahimovic and even Thierry Henry kind of rode the coat tails of other players.

Pretty sure if we get Llorente and Gomes over the line, even without the pacy winger, Pochettino will not be severely disappointed with Levy. In fact I reckon he'll be delighted with the bald midget!

Gomes is just talk - as it stands I stand by what I've said

Gomes is class and would dramatically improve us and our options. But it's just talk.

Sky mentioned moura earlier on lol - I've not included him either as it's just talk - I'm giving an opinion based on who we have and essentially the window shutting as we are mate

Gomes is playing right now - how on earth is he making a move anywhere?

Signing Sanchez, Foyth, Aurier, Llorente and Gomes? is an excellent window and the best for a long time. Not signing a quick forward will be disappointing but I think this will be compounded by the fact we've been told pace was pretty much in the bag the last 48 hours. It's not the end of the world but disappointing nevertheless.

This is what's irking me. What happened to all the backups we had?

Agree that this has been a solid window though.

If our window ends up being -

Walker out, Aurier in
Wimmer out, Sanchez in
Fazio out, Foyth in
Janssen out, Llorente in
Gazzaniga in

+ getting N'Jie and Benaleb permanently off the wage bill, then I'd call that a damn good window. If we get Gomes in too, or even Barkley, then that's a bonus, and Rose/Lamela will feel like new signings when they come back.

The question at the start of the window was how do you possibly upgrade a team which has scored the most and conceded the least in the league two years running.

I'd say, man for man, we've achieved that already regardless of what happens between now and 11pm.

Happy.

Son say hi!
Son is a great player but how often does he make penetrating runs behind the defense? He's more a player who hangs around the edge of the box than a Mane type with searing pace. As I said it's obvious Poch wants to bring in a player for that position.
