To add some clarity to my post, I don't know how many defenders we will bring in. It will completely depend on how many of Rodon, Tanganga, Dier, Sanchez, Reguilon, Sessegnon & Perisic we can shift. The latter three obviously don't directly affect CB but I would think we would entertain bids for all of them. If we can shift a large proportion of those stated, then obviously we would bring in more than one defender.

But this has been the same story for all of Levy's tenure. If we shift the deadwood, we can buy new players, etc. I hope we aren't pricing these players out like we always do.

Personally speaking I would be delighted if all of them were sold. We need a total refresh at the back and I wouldn’t mind the only ones staying as Romero, Udogie, Porro and Emerson.

The rest can go.

I honestly think their wages are the biggest issue over what we would sell for. It's getting to a point now some have been around so long their contracts will run out before we can sell. Maybe we'll release a few and just pay off their contract.

That's Levy's MO... overvalue our players, undervalue our targets.
Good businessman, f'ing awful football club chairman.

Not going to enter a discussion in this thread re past windows and Levy. I mentioned the other week I was told we would be ruthless. To me, that means we will be far more sensible when it comes to our valuations and will release if necessary. Time will tell and I'm more than aware we've been in this position many times before and heard exactly the same thing, but I'm actually quite excited about this window.

Steps back and awaits the usual pile on.
No pile on here. I actually believe the dwarf has a modus operandi that he believes makes him smarter than everyone else. First, he says we must sell in order to buy & all that hogwash about improving the team. Then he Insists on overvaluing our players (knowing no one will ever pay those amounts) and undervalues targets ...only to then turn around & say we couldn't buy cos we couldn't sell & the squad is too bloated. In my mind, it's very clear that we never sell - that's cos it suits the dwarf's M.O. perfectly.

And he will still have his doting fans defending him! I think we will see that once he departs (forcibly removed, or more likely only when he dies) then spurs will start being a normal football club not hampered by his ego and lack of integrity.

Please take your waffle to the correct thread.

It's clearly time to start to ban/get rid of the complete idiots who know the rules but won't or don't care enough to follow them.

It only takes one person to either start asking ITK's questions, bring Levy into it, or starts critiquing a player who probably has a 1000+ post thread for that elsewhere and people take that as open house invitation to carry it on.

The banstick has been removed from it's box, the carnage setting has been selected and the lube has not been applied.

Re a CB, the media reports seems pretty on the money with who is on the list. It's a very encouraging list and although I personally want Tapsoba, I would be happy with any of them.
This is really good to hear mate and I'm certainly hoping we can get one of the linked CBs in before the preseason tour. Its refreshing to see that it looks like we are addressing the issue at hand by pursuing realistic, attainable but still quality, CB targets.

Agree about the excitement of the window ahead. Felt the same last season on the back of unthinkable achievement though shit happened.
Whilst it's the same excitement it is for very different reasons this year. It seems like more of a do or die transfer window than usual.

I’m assuming that we’ve faxed some of those free-spending Saudi clubs a list of our available players? Worth a follow-up fax?

Best news I've heard since Conte was sacked.....

Not entirely sure about Maddison, but HG and all that.

Following on from H88's post about being ruthless. I'd imagine we would be more flexible, as I'd expect the likes of sanchez, lloris and dier have 0 value on the books as assets. Their cost would have surely been depreciated over the course of their original contract timespan.

Whilst we do need to be ruthless to remove players from our books as mentioned, we will need to be careful in paying up contracts or valuing a player at zero, as it will set a precedent with clubs then knowing that it’s not worth offering anything for one of our players with a year on their contract, and if they play hardball or leave it to the end of the window they will get them for nothing.

what is noticeable is that all the ITK seems to be very positive atm.

To me that means we won't be signing Ruth.

Agree with the sentiment but we've already done this with Adebayor, Aurier, Doherty, Dele to an extent and I'm sure others I can't think of.

I'd like to think players like Dier, Sanchez, sessegnon and Lloris would all find paid moves. None of them are shocking and decent pick ups for clubs like Everton, Bournemouth, Palace etc

Stuff from Ali-Z yesterday:

I would say that we would have a net spend of 80m plus this summer and when you consider the number of players we aim to shift that would bring in as minimum an additional 50m at rock bottom prices, though could be considerably more and I still think we might sell players that would shock a few like PEH and Richarlison.

I'd be very surprised, although probably not that disappointed, if we sold Richarlison. I know RM were linked but I'm not really sure I buy that link and I just have no idea who in general would want him especially for the price we would want.
