I don't really know anything about Vydra apart from he his the same age and has
pretty much the same record as Tom Ince, and not too many are keen on him.
Whats the difference between the two?

Probably around £6million in transfer fee mate. Remember, Ince is 'homegrown' so that adds ridiculous millions to his actual value. Talk has been of £10mil+ for Ince, I'll be willing to bet that Vydra wouldn't even be half of that.

Simply because he's 31. I doubt Villa (who is the same age, and relies far less on his pace) will end up costing £10m, and he's genuinely word class.

£4-5m would be a fair price for Defoe IMO.

Well, he is 31 in October, but i take your point. He is getting on a bit, relatively speaking, but to a team having just been promoted it would be worth it if his goals could help them stay up at the end of next season. Consequently I would have thought he would be worth more than your estimate, at the end of the day he is only worth what someone is prepared to pay.

That would tie in with the ITK regarding "beaten Harlequin", but personally I don't really rate Vydra.
His goal against Leicester was spectacular, but before that he went through a major barren spell.
Maybe he'll benefit from being in a team with better players, and he's potentially "one for the future", but if it's more than £5 million I wouldn't move for him.

He went through a major baron spell, yet still managed to get 20 goals in 41 games. I wish the baron spells from Adebayor & Defoe were as good as that. What was it, something like 3 or 4 goals between them in 5 months :(

Wasn't there some tenuous link to a Watford player before so maybe this firms up that our interest was indeed in Vydra?

Talented youngster who's had a good taste of English football - a lot of upside to this deal if it were to come off but I wouldn't like to call how much Udinese value him though.

Yes there was a link ITK update 28.
Couldnt say at the time, but it was guessed quite quickly anyway.

Please don't take this the wrong way. We, as a club, tend to keep our business VERY quiet. So, although your brother is a Watford fan and knows what happens behind the scenes, how would it be known there that Vydra is close to joining us? Surely Vydra has already returned to Udinese/Italy? And surely, even though it was reported just 2 days ago that he is likely to remain at Walford next season ( http://www.sport.co.uk/football/wat...championship-player-of-the-year-mate/4236636/ ), any interest from our club wouldn't be mentioned to Watford?

Like i said, please don't take that the wrong way. I'm not dismissing your brother, his info, or his knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes at Watford. I'm just trying to make sense of how he (or the people in the background at Watford) would know Vydra is close to joining us.
Watford ask Udinese (or the player) about coming back next season only to be told 'it isn't a posseeeble. He's a-going to sign for da tottsenham'.

He has made friends at Watford. He mentions it to them

That's just two possibilities that occur. Up there for thinking(taps noggin), down there for dancing (points at feet)

You're welcome

Outgoings: BAE(£8m) Parker(£4m) Livermore(£5m) Defoe/Ade(£8m) Gallas(free) Rose(£7m) Hudd(£5m) Kane(£4m)=£41m and surely we already have £20m in the bank and JL would make sure we did at an important time like this. Trying to keep Bale, need CL and so on

Classic Football Manager nonsense - quite aside from assuming that we would have buyers for all these players (bar Gallas) you're also assuming, for some reason, that someone would be willing to pay £4m for Harry Kane?!

And that amazing line: 'surely we already have £20m in the bank'... WTF. Where did we find that? From the magic money trolls who live under the new supermarket?

We might have offers but we will not sell Dawson, Townsend, Defoe or Siguardsson.

I can see Defoe going, he was only given a 3 year contrat I believe at the start of last season which would leave 2 now, and is only 30? Reeked of let's give him another year so next year he's mire sellable financially with 2 years on his contract rather than 1.

Yep I had thought of that scenario, though I would like to think he (or Udinese) would be a bit more professional than that & simply say something along the lines of "we would like to evaluate other options before making a decision upon what happens next season", rather than point blank saying, "I've (we've) had an offer from Tottenham & are accepting that one"..

My guess is we're going for Leandro for #9, with Soldado as back-up. And Villa for left inside forward, with Aubameyang as back-up. Then we'll not buy a more traditional wide player

Re Baldini, I'd say he's more here to:

i) bring over unknown teenagers from Brazil/Argentina/Italy - like he did with Higuain, Gago, Lamela, Samuel, De Rossi and Cassano

ii) negotiate deals (in place of Levy) for top players - like he did with Batistuta, Guardiola, Cannavaro and RvN.

That would be a shame, since Soldado is many hundreds of times too good to be Leandro's back-up... Why on earth would he join us in order to warm the bench while an inferior player with a much less impressive career plays ahead of him?

they live above the supermarket; I saw em fussing about getting down to mug us on the way through to whl the other week.

Sorry but that's just not how it works. At all.
I can't be arsed to dig them out but over the years I've come across shitloads of quotes indicating that one buying club know who other interested clubs are. It's in their interest to do it too.

Just got back from a week's holiday to find, well, absolutely no bloody change at all - still no striker. I do really like the makeover the Goat has been given though!! :)

The Roberto Soldado ITK is brilliant though. He's a fantastic striker. What is even better is that we'd be able to use him as a final take it or leave it bargaining chip to Internacional for Damiao.

If the Inter president really wants to piss us around any longer, then we take the wheelbarrow over to Valencia! :)

The journo's stuff about youngsters is good to hear. We've been saying this for ages on here. Get in the likes of Shaw, McCarthy, Bernard etc. Past the first 12-14 players the squad looked a bit stale last year. We need more hungry, ambitious players with quality in the right areas.

When he says back-up I think he means if we miss out on Leandro, not buy both with Soldado on the bench

Think he means back up plan! Read again before bleating.

Then they're bastards lol.. On this particular occasion, I just don't get the point? It's not looking as though they're going to ignite a bidding war, is it? Would issuing a statement that says he's likely to stay at Watford because there's a lucrative 5 year deal on the table for him, ignite a bidding war?. I like what little I saw of the young lad, to be honest. I'm just trying to make sense of the info that was passed on to us. It's not easy when you're as cognitively challenged as I am :(
