Forgive me for being positive amongst the waves of negative comments but I'm loving that ITK. If it's accurate then it sounds more like the policy that led us to having a team including Modric, Bale, VDV etc that got us into the top 4 and quarter finals of the CL. That team was built more carefully than this current crop and it showed.

I realise it's easy to see another false dawn or claim that we've heard it all before but the Bale money was seemingly used like a kid finding a £50 note on the street and then running into the first sweet shop he could find. Mitchell has been here for a few months now and has already been scouting both first team players and youngsters alike.

You lot can be all doom and gloom if you like but I'm gonna go ahead and hope that this summer we're gonna get it right. Roll on next season. Cannot wait.

The policy is fine up to a point, the problem I have is are we going to bear the fruits or are we going to sell them off before they can achieve anything here.

You don't have to be suicidal to support Spurs but some on here sure have strong negative vibes.

Roll on the next season and the new instalment of THFC's glorious history. COYS

Depay would cost significantly more then 15 mil so even if he could be persuaded to join he wouldn't fall into that budget bracket. In theory i like the idea set out by the ITK but to get the type of player we need to take us to the next level we will most likely need to spend more. Defensive players tend to cost less so we could stick to that price bracket but attacking players of any real quality cost money. The only reason we got Eriksen was due to his contract running down. I would much rather we spent a larger sum on two, well scouted players that could seriously change the way we play.

But you then play it both ways don't you? I know that swaps don't happen in reality but that could be a reasonable route. However if you are getting a player at say 20% under his perceived value then don't you in turn have to shift a player for under his value if you want the space in the squad?

Also there is the UK sale price which would probably fall somewhere between the price of the two in order that 'smaller' EPL clubs could pick up decent price players.

The problem is Levy wants to buy at 20% under real value and sell at 25% over real value.

No. The problem is that fans overrate players at other clubs and underrate players that we have. The grass is always greener/shiny new toys syndrome etc.

I think a lot of people on here overrate players both at other clubs and what we already have. :p

Let's hope that other clubs also overrate some of our bunch then also! ;)

That was not the only reason. None of the"big" clubs were much interested in him. And Eriksen saw Spurs as a good clubs to futher his career.

Dortmund and Man City were both very much interested in him, and I'm sure there were others. I believe he chose us as he thought he would get the most playing time here and be allowed to continue developing.

I hope that there are other players of similar quality that have the same mindset as Eriksen we might have a better chance of signing them

All the big clubs were very well aware of/interested in Eriksen but in the end none of them made a firm bid for him.

City did make a firm offer the summer before we did, and Eriksen declined it. It is believed he turned down the offer because he understandably didn't think his playing time would be favorable. Dortmund was also apparently extremely interested, but ultimately chose Mkhitaryan because he was making it rain goals in Ukraine. It's no question the youngest player at the 2010 World Cup was one of the top prospects in Europe at the time of our interest, and I think he chose us because he every move he has made in his career has been carefully calculated, and it very much helps that his father is a football manager and very familiar with handling these things.

I'm not sure Depay will cost that much more than £15m. He isn't a huge name yet and the Dutch league is hardly known for generating huge fees.

But on FM he's great. Surely that boosts his price by £10m?

trix: Ade is now very much in the position where leaving financially suits him. Make your own minds up what he will be looking to do.
His agent is 100% talking to other clubs.

Can somebody please explain why now is a good time for him financially? Can it be that Spurs holds an option on him for next season, which they have waived, making him a free agent? Or is it because a 2 or 3 years contract now with a new club is better than the insecurity of only having 1 year more at Spurs?

I would think the fact that he is down to 1 year left on contract would be the catch.....knows he won't be playing for us, knows we won't be giving him a contract and he knows someone will be willing to give him a contract for a few more seasons if he leaves.

Also, the average EPL club can afford reasonable wages now. TV money has changed the game. Levy showed that he was willing to sell to an EPL non-rival, and many of those teams could now afford Adebayor's wages if he's purchased cheaply.
