If there was any ITK it would be in the RO.

LLM and some of the stuff off of COYS doesn't get put in there though.

Did the Journalists from the Benteke thread last night? Saying that PL will have a press conference tomorrow?

If it goes tits, the BSoDL will say we were never in for him, or that it is the fault of the pink unicorn or that Benteke never said he wanted to come to Spurs or the fruitcake had too many cherries in it or something similar and not bat an eyelid in doing it. It'll be twisted and spun like two contortionists on acid having a bunk up.

Guaranfuckingteed.

Did Levy run over your cat or give Mrs A&C a good seeing too or something, because you seem to be having a bit of ocd when it comes to Levy lately.

We might get the price down a little, but I'm not convinced Aston Villa are going to change their stance considerably.

We either play ball with them and get realistic about it...ie offer something they will truly consider or we move on. The fact that we value him at 18 million, for example, doesn't equate to Villa being greedy because they won't sell for that price. Capiche?

This is just typical of all these stupid arguments in here which I've stayed out of. Pro Levy or Anti levy it doesn't matter two hoots which side of some imaginary fence you sit. Unless some of you guys really have all the information to hand, and I don't mean the stuff on the surface but underneath, then you really are not in any position to have arguments about it surely? I suggest some of those involved go back and have a read (might take a while) and see the sort of comments.

If MP you don't know this for a fact, then why put it there. Do you actually honestly know this? Is it really stupid business practice to go looking for and discussing the best deal anyone can get for the club?

No idea why some people are having a spak attack over Benteke's (proposed) transfer to us.

I'm sure negotiations are still ongoing, and just because JJ, LLM, or the Journalist aren't popping in here every 6 seconds with sexy ITK doesn't mean the deal has been derailed.

Keep calm and carry on.

Nobody's doubting the improvement, but just think how much better we could have been if DL hadn't tried to protect his/our money with so much vigour. In other words every now and again take a risk! Go that extra 1 million.

And I do agree with this, BUT why do some fans find it so easy to his the self destruct button when already this pre season we have:

1) signed a Brazilian international equalling our record transfer fee

2) convinced our top class young manager not to jump ship to PSG

3) signed a world class director of football that our manager wanted us to

4) it appears have managed to convince our world class superstar in bale to stay

5) according to itk closing in on a top centre forward who would smash our transfer fee!!

It's just boring to keep reading winging little messages when if people could take a step back and look at what we have done and what is appearing possible in the near future they should be happy and excited!!

Didn't Einstein state that people will make the same mistakes hoping that the result will be different, or something like that. To me that's DL

Aston Villa are being greedy, just like Inter with Leandro.

We can't and shouldn't be bent over a barrel for players like these

it would affect all future dealings

Benteke ain't no Messi

Come on man - we would be the exact same. The value of a player is based on more than the players quality. Villa don't need to sell, he's their best player, he's young and he's only been at the club 1 year. Villa can be as greedy as they want. He hasn't proved himself enough to let his performances slip next season so he would play his best for Villa. If he has another season like this one then they can easily ask for £30m+.

War chest my backside, this is typical DL, we won't get a top striker, wide player while DL sorts out transfers, we have seen year after year how he has f**ked a transfer thread up with always trying to get lower

I think it makes it more entertaining. except today.

The training centre is an investment for the future. It could save us millions if it helps us develop players.

It cost 30m to build, some of which will have been paid through sponsorship. Yes, we could have spent that on players but there is no gaurentee that it would have got us CL. We could have gotten another Bent & Bentley or another Modric and Berbatov who knows.

It may seem that we have been treading water for the last 7 years but we have 2 teams in our league with unlimited funds (1 that only become rich within those 7 tears) 1 team with the most successful manager in the history of the top divison in England, whilst we are trying to compete with the 10th biggest stadium in the league.

You say "Levy wasn't prepared to go the extra yard to give us the extra depth to be sure of tying up a CL place" but he can only spend what we make anything extra is Lewis's money not his.

Who would you rather have as Chairman?

I'd sooner spend the 30 million on a player for today to be honest. The future is always just around the corner. Another season, the next transfer window. To the best of my shakey memory Hoddle was the last truely home grown "next best thing" to come from the yut'es. If i have the choice of spending 30 million on a buliding and having to wait thirty years for similar quality for the next, next best thing then i'd rather take the thirty million cheque and spend it on a player that can deliver CL footie next season. With the squad that we currently have, an additional player or two for 30 million would almost guarentee that fourth spot.

I guess it's because in the past we've
  1. Signed Rasiak
  2. Sold Berbatov and replaced him with a Man Utd cast off
  3. Sacked Commoli because he was responsible for appointing Ramos. Meanwhile there is no one responsible for appointing Comolli
  4. Signed Saha
  5. Chased after a Brazilian dude we can't afford for a couple of years, resulting in us missing out on Champions league football
You're right, COYS!!!

So essentially we're arguing about the validity of the quotes? According to today's papers, that is what he said. Granted newspapers fabricate stories all the the time, but fabricating direct quotes is another thing entirely.

I choose to believe Villa said that, but you don't. Fair enough, let's end the discussion there. :)

Well if thats the case then apologies. What was the source?

EDIT: Never mind I have found the source - The Mirror. Looks like a bastardised translation of the same quote to me.

And you think a 30m player would come to a club with a dated small stadium and a shitty training ground?

Hopefully Levy will see the writing on the wall: Higuain might be going to Napoli and maybe Damiao, too. Rooney might end up at Chelsea is they really want him. Suarez may be too overpriced for Arsenal and all this could mean they turn their attention to Benteke.

18m + 25% sell-on sounds incredibly fair to me. If Benteke pans out and we end up selling him in a few years time for 30m+, they would stand to make about 25-26m in the deal total.

I just really hope we don't wait around long enough for the other clubs to lose out on their main targets and have them set their sights on Benteke. Because after Benteke, all I realistically see us landing is Soldado, and he'd probably come at or near the price of Negredo's 25m Euros.
Good chain of thought, but if Napoli sign both Higuain and Damiao, I'll my hat and your pants.
