I can't see it being OK for us to have an agreement whereby we pay to a charity in lieu of salary.
To you, me Daniel and Ade, it would be be in lieu of wages but to the taxman it would just be a stipulation of contract. Therefore it would not be treated as a 'perk' or benefit such as a company car that would attract tax. It would that THFC entered into a sponsorship with X. Ade wouldn't be mentioned at all, except that failing to do so on Daniel's pay would man that Ade's contract becomes void.

I was going to suggest last week that there might be some other plan re the charities. Not giving some weekly amount but maybe some marketing tie-up and foundation type of thing.

But then thinking unlikely much revenue to be made in a poor country with a relatively low population

It's justifiable if the transfer fee is low. Total contract value is what matters and there aren't many players like Adebayor around that either are cheaper or would want to come.

Adebayor was one of our most important players last season and it's crucial we retain him.

Why on earth is high wages justifiable with a low transfer fee? I can understand from a club point of few that its the total contract value that matters but for the other players it most certainly is not.

Bale: I hear Ade is on 150k a week!! I want the same!
Levy: Dont worry your pea size brain with the number my son. We got him on the cheap so all together its a good deal.
Bale: I dont care what you paid for him, I want the same salary as he does. If you dont give it to me, I quit!
VDV: I want more as well! I dont need 150 but I want at least 130k. If not I will quit also.
Verts: I regret to agree on my salary! I want at least 100k if Ade is getting 150.
Sandro: I want 100!!
Walker: I want 100!!

No way Levy will sanction a 150k salary for Ade. If he does it will be our downfall!

And the new investors say "Bale, VDV, Sandro, Walker, here have your new Salaries. Happy?"

I don't understand why so many people are suggesting Levy / the club would sanction tax evading payments, regardless of who / what charitable organisations might benefit... I am aware of the rules, am aware it can be done - to a point - but fail to believe that the chairman who has steered us so well for so long would leave himself open to getting done by the authorities. which is what would happen eventually. rangers anyone?

jeeeebs. If it's really £150k per week, It's gonna be the EQUIVALENT of £150k per week after a lump sum and bonuses for sticking around. You're all nuts to think otherwise. You're all nuts anyway. :D

And this from the man who has bet money on Falco to sign for us! ;)

Happy? Not at all.

For the argument sake say that we have gotten a hold of 100-200 mill from new investors I most certainly do not want our wage bill to increase 30-40 mill a year just because Ade wants 150k a week.

I was implying, that the players would be happy. At the end of the day I support Tottenham, and wish them to be successful in the current environment and moving forward. If that means paying ridiculous wages then so be it. As long as the results match the increase in salary, one would assume that we would get the money back over time, success - trophies etc.

Because you can give him a big sign on fee instead of paying everything directly in his weekly wages. Yes, the money still goes to Ade but I think the other players are bright enough to understand that was what it took to sign the guy.

The perfect sense is to pay City 5m. Give Ade 100k a week and give 70k a week to his charity for 2 years which is the same amount as his contract.

Then if he stays with us for the 3rd year we just dont pay the 70k a week to charity. I'm sure its not as cut and dry as that but that seems logical

Apart from supporting Tottenham, I totally disagree.

We could do with some new ITK. Wages chat is a bit boring!

It's very quiet on the ITK front isn't it? Maybe they are all at the kit launch.

"And here modelling the new home kit....it's POTL!"

"And following him modelling the new away kit....it's JJetset!"

"And running around naked and not supposed to be here at all....it's ADIEPF!!!!!!"

Is there any chance we'll get a couple of under the radar signings modeling shirts this arvo?

Falcao, Moutinho, Lloris perchance?

No. As a uk taxpayer he would get gift aid on his donation making it far larger. The way you have suggested is bad for the club and the charity.
