Di Marzio is saying Poch is close to becoming our new manager unless there's a last minute hitch.

It's funny, I don't remember anyone complaining or worrying about our profit figures when we sacked and paid off Harry and his staff, or AVB, or Ramos or any of our managers we've sacked. Now all of a sudden it's an issue.

As has been said above, the manager is the most important person at the club and if after careful consideration we've identified our number one target then we should be prepared to pay the compensation required (within reason obviously).

Where has this notion that Levy's quibbling over the compensation come from? Yes, he drives a hard bargain, but we're talking about the approximate price of a promising 20-year-old striker from Dagenham & Redbridge or someone.

Pochettino's going nowhere else. Frank the Farmer isn't either. There's still a tenuous hope of van Gaal or Ancelotti. Of course we're waiting.

I am not sure if giving a manager more time really is the answer.
I am trying to think of a manager in the past 20 years who came into a club and really only started to make things happen after 3 years in charge...by that I mean make them successful ..........I can't think of any.
Good managers seem to make an impact really quickly and after 18 months in charge you can tell for sure if he is going to be successful or not.

You honestly think if we had hired Rodgers, and finished seventh in his first season, similar to what he did with Liverpool, we would of stuck with him?

That's rhetorical by the way.

This is big. Di Marzio's source is clearly Baldini as he was spot on with all our transfer dealings last summer.

Yep.

The two people i will listen to above anyone else is this guy and JJ. And both are saying its Poch (well JJ more or less did earlier on in the week)

Of course we don't know that he's quibbling over compensation. I was just responding to several posts suggesting that we'd be right to quibble, which I think is ridiculous if he's the manager the club believe is the right man to take us forward.

Absolutely......anyone could tell after Xmas 2012 that they were really starting to improve as a team and results showed that.

They did improve but I don't see how you can say that with complete certainty when they finished well off the pace in terms of position.

Mate, my maths is a bit sketchy, but that's a fair bit of the pace in terms of Levy's demands :)

If we were in the same position as liverpool when rogers took over. Having to sell players to ballance the books and bring the wages down. Then yes. As long as there was progression. The signings they made in the summer were excellent and the fans could see which way the club was headed. Liverpool were right to give him another season.
We sacked avb because the football was terrible and we looked like we were regressing after spending over £100m on players. Tim was brought in as interim manager and would have had to do something special to keep the job especially as a lot of fans hated him.

Of course, without Suarez they might not have improved—and their defence is quite as dodgy as ours, even though Mignolet's on a par with Lloris as a shot-stopper.

The end of season statement from Levy and the report from the meeting with THST tells me that Levy will be a lot more patient as long as the football is entertaining.

I agree, there was progression, particularly after Sturridge came into the side. Still wouldn't be entirely confident though.

I also agree regarding AVB as well. Getting the right person in might see us show more patience but I still think we're quite an impatient lot in all truth. But if the football is good and we can see progression in terms of it coming together than maybe we'll get there in the end with the next manager.

Looks like a done deal now then.

If DiMarzio is stating it then it would seem so....

Did peek over at Saintsweb and see the Saints fans being a little hopeful because the Express is running a story in the morning that Soton are going to offer Poch as massive new deal and a £30m warchest (plus what he picks up in sales). However most seemed resigned to the fact that Poch was leaving...
