Actually, most of the ITK (and Uncle Danny's comments) I remember says we have a separate pot for development as for players - so not the same pot.
Yes, they all come from Spurs overall but the two budgets are separate.
But I like the gist of your point - there is no reason we shouldn't spend ... Except if the player in question doesn't add to the overall quality of the team/squad, that is!

The stadium was announced in October 2008

From 2009 our annual transfer spend fell from £20m a year, to zero/slight profit.

That's to do with the hugely improved quality of sales more than anything else.

So if we have saved around £160 million in player recruitment in the last 7 seasons, plus the NFL deal could be worth another £50-100 million over 10 years and add to that stadium naming rights and match-day income at about £100 million a season then we should not take as long as Arsenal did to pay off their stadium..

surprise, something called itk
ali z: As far as I hear Austin is not an option, 3/4 being considered, might even be 2 in a younger player Dembele, but we will not add what we perceive are players that do not improve us.

hope we don't 'consider' for too long, we're 2 weeks in already and the clock's ticking. hope the munchkin doesn't let let it come down to a deadline day hail mary punt again.

if we don't sign anyone then am fine with that but any targets you'd have thought would have been a long way down the line by now.

Appears that we're definitely looking to bring someone in this window, just a case of making sure it's the right player. This would support the ITK about Poch being worried about Berahino's apparent attitude problems.

Of course it will be in the last few days in the window. That's where the deals are to be had. Levys words

There will be a big difference between looking and getting somebody in. We couldn't find the right quality to bring in this window won't cut it with most of us

The only reason I can see for clubs not holding out for the best deal they can get, even if it's last minute, is because they are desperate ... or maybe don't care about splashing out stupid money. Although I do subscribe to the majority opinion that we really do need another quality striker I think the nature of what we need to improve us means we are not in the desperate category. So hang on to your hats for the last day craziness

wonder if Shillow Tracey will get any first team action while Clinton is out injured or wether we'll ease him into the Club & our way.
